MOT & Service: Kwik-fit vs local garage.

Tenth Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker
Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone could help me with a bit of advice on picking a garage for an MOT & annual service.

I've got a quote for about £250 on service + MOT (no discount for having two at the same time) from a local garage where I did my last service & MOT.
Having an old almera, its a bit steep, especially when kwik-fit offers the same for about £170. Furthermore, some checks are not included in the local garage's annual service (e.g. wheel alignment & balance, etc).

Now, there are quite a few bad reviews of kwik-fit online as they apparently like to rip people off, so what would you recommend? Is kwik-fit good enough to go there & save £70 or should I stay with the local garage and avoid Kwik-fit at all costs?

Thank you!

problem with having an old almera is they have beauty spots to rub for corrosion like rear end sills ,now a fast fitter might miss and look for more juicy things like low tyres but a local garage would know to give them a damm good prodding and cause holes that require welding (all above board and in the best possible taste of course)
    so
    no easy answer
basically if your car is solid clean and well maintained an mot should be a mere formality

How did I know the OP would be a brand new poster before I even opened this thread?

Perhaps I should do the lottery this week?

Inspecting cars efficiently requires a lot of equipment, which your local may not have. I would use Kwit-fit.

I really don't know. My mind is currently preoccupied trying to find answers to the following questions:
    • Is the pope a catholic?
    • Do bears deficate in the woods?
Answers on a postcard please ...

But can the tyre monkeys use that equipment?

Everyone on this entire forum was once an original poster. Even you. Forget the lottery, you are far too cynical (and rude).
