Has anyone ever tried Squeeze Cheese? it is the most disgusting thing ever, it has no cheese flavour it is unbelievably salty, if it were at all possible I would say it is saltier than salt itself.0

Well it's certainly cheap at less than £1/kg.
I suppose the acid test would be whether mice are interested - if not I'd steer well clear :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Growing up we used to spray this stuff directly into our mouths. Makes me sick to think about it now, but back then we thought it was delicious!

Definitely a ration pack staple, does anyone remember the horse biscuit that was in the pack too. Mind you I'd give anything for one of the tiny tin openers, so sharp and easy to use. After a days yomping we'd eat almost anything:rotfl:0

You mean Biscuits Brown or Biscuits Oat?...The Oat one we'd crumble up into the hot chocolate & make a sort of porridge.....0 -
Thems They! It was always a b***er if the writing had got rubbed off, have had some interesting things in the old mess pot:rotfl: The oat [STRIKE]biccies[/STRIKE] bricks were ok as porridge especially as you describe. Thing was though I was young, permanantly starving with a cast iron gut:T Just as well really!0

I remember those compo-ration horse-biscuits with much fondness. My Dad used to bring them home for us when he came back from exercises.
Now, tinned cheese: I am very disappointed that they turned out to be tins of Austrian smoked cheese. I thought this might be a question about the tins of cheese I've seen in the Turkish supermarket. I keep meaning to ask someone about them but I have a feeling they might be feta-like tinned in brine. They're a tiny bit pricey for a chance-purchase in case I don't like it and they have at least a couple of dozen different brands in about half a dozen sizes. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE. Cheese-fiend speaking here. I daresay it's very nice and I have yet to meet a cheese that I didn't like. I have some Turkish "cooking-cheese" in the fridge which I haven't tried yet called Kashkaval Erzincan Kasari picked up for a few pennies out of curiosity. I need to get off my bahookie and use it in a recipe0 -
:rotfl:The only thing I can thing of to use compo cheese for (it doesn't melt well, if at all) is cut it into cubes, either breadcrumb it or batter it and deep fry. We used to just eat it out of the tins, so not adventurous or open all the available tins and hurl in mess tin!! :rotfl:Memories;)
My daughter is in the RAF and the food standards definitely seem better than I remember from my WREN days.0
