hi, i dont know if someone could help me or give me some advise?

in january 2012 i took out a contract with orange and paid the bill on time every month without any problems, on the 23rd april i upgraded my contract to the iphone 4s (worth over £500) now today i have phoned orange as i want to take out either a sim only or just a rolling sim for my girlfriend, they have told me that i cant have 1 because i owe them £350 from 2001 (11 years ago!!) even tho im already in contract with them as they gave me the iphone only a few weeks ago!

am i still eligible to pay that debt from 11 years ago as me and the bloke from orange thought it got wiped after 6 years??

i just think its silly how they can say after being in contract with them for 5 months i aint allowed to have a rolling sim but they gave me a brand new iphone that has been paid without any problems,

orange told me to e-mail creditfilequeries@anythinganywhere.com and explain to them but still havent had any kind of reply back from them, i would just like to know where i stand before they do contact me.

any info would be appreciated,

cheers
rob

    Hi Rob,

My experience of the creditfilequeries email for Everything Everywhere is similar, with something that backdated to 2007, but if it helps my email took around 7 days to be answered. When they did, it was thankfully sorted.

My suggestion is that regarding getting a rolling contract for your girlfriend, it would be probably best to get a PAYG sim on Orange, (there are some reasonable offers if you top up £10 etc) then after 3 months call Orange, and ask that number to be made to a Sim-Only tariff rather than PAYG. Whilst its not a guarantee it will sort the underlying issue with having outstanding "debt" as they'll call it- it'd mean that your girlfriend has a sim to use and that in 3 months the likelihood is there that they'll upgrade it to SIM only.

hi mate thanks for getting back to me so quick,

she is on payg at the min but topped up £25 this month and still ran out of internet and tx's so when spoke to orange the sound of the rolling sim was only £10.50 a month but gets double the allowance that she gets on the payg for half the price so thought was getting a good deal,

but what should i do when they do contact me about this money from 2001? am i eligible to still pay it after so many years and they didnt pick up on it when gave me the new contract?

    thanks,
    rob

How can you take out a contract in Jan of this year and upgrade 3 months later?

Anyway - as regards the debit from 2001 - are you eligible? Yes if you want to pay it? Correct wording - Are you liable? Yes if the debit collector company can prove it in court or something and you agree to it.

i took out a SIM ONLY contract in jan and could upgrade to the phone contract after 90 days aslong as the bills was all paid on time,

but my point is how can they sign me into a 24 month contract and then say i owe them £350 from that many years ago?? i dont intend to pay the bill as i havent recieved any kind of letter from them saying i owe them that money, i didnt even know i owed it till spoke to orange this morning, dont bills get wiped after 6 years or is that wrong information??

    thanks

Best to ask on the Debit Free forum for advice regarding the old debit.

After 6 years, they can't ask you for the money if they have not contacted you about it before. But they can refuse to do business with you in future as they have a black mark against you which presumably they overlooked or did not know about when giving you the iphone contract.
