Siri or an alternative?... dexterity problems HELP!!
Ok so I know that we have the whole iphone for and against argument going on but I really need advice before I take the plunge!.
I'm a wheelchair user with manual dexterity problems and really need a new phone.
I need a phone that is also
a decent camera
a sat nav
a calender for appointments
internet accessible to check trains/ buses late apps etc
also useful if it had a sort of book reading app but this would be a luxury rather than a neccessity.
I used to many moons ago have a viewty.. yes I know ancient but this was great for my text messages due to the stylus/ character recognition as i have problems texting hence the voice recognition of the SIRI catching my eye.
you guys have not made it easy for me as every time i think of going down the iphone route I find posts that advise others not to do it so calling on the advice of MSE forumites please can you tell me of your experiences or if there is any other phones that have what i need!
At the moment I am with Virgin as is the whole family so was thinking of buying the Iphone from the apple shop as virgin don't support it but its alot of money to buy something then it all to go wrong!
Please help

Would a tablet not be better for everything except calls and texts?
I think Samsung Galaxy tab can do calls and texts as well.

I do have a little laptop and was thinking about the galaxy note but I do need to carry my phone around and the galaxy note would be too big to fit in my handbag!0

The iPhone is amazing for pretty much everything but Siri is useless in the UK. They haven't yet given us the full Siri experience so it can't do anything to do with locations.
For example if you say "where is the nearest shop" it will say something like "I can only check locations in america" or something just as annoying.
It wouldn't even let me check the wether in London because of this location issue.
Location services will work with Siri in the UK eventually but until then it's pretty useless.
The new Samsung S3 has a Siri alternative but I've not used it so I can't comment on it yet!0 -

Remember the dictation feature though. That could be useful.0 -
The note would be perfect for you.
I have one in a little flip case and it's the size of one of the little slim pocket diaries that I used to have. It'll fit in most bags and pockets .
The case makes it easy to hold - I do not need to get my hand all the way round the width of it at all.
Swype text entry might work well too with limited mobility/ dexterity the software seems very good at guessing what you mean as you run your fingers across the keys from one letter to another.0 -
thanks for your all your replies

I see what you mean about the location problems with the SIRI. I didn't actually know that it was supposed to do that, i was interested in it for the ability to sent texxt messages using my voice and adding appointments to my diary using my voice. At the moment I don't even have data on my phone that is how much of a phone dinosaur I am at the moment! I'm not into all the extra bells and whistles its more of a consistant reliable phone that I would like. Obviously I won't say no to the extras!!
My sister keeps having problems with her nokia crashing which would be a nuisance for me as I can't afford to miss medical appointments etc... hence why I'm asking for your opinions

From reading the replies, many handsets will do as you wish, but congratulations on getting the handset outright and keeping your monthly spend low, it is just the unfortunate few where things go wrong, I often see positive resolve with apple purchased products so go for it :cool:0 -
Thanks everyone I have taken the plunge and bought the iphone and so far I am totally chuffed with it the SIRI is great and although it was a bit hairy cutting the sim card down its so far been a great choice
