San Fran II debranding

Hi, well I've had my II for a few weeks now (had the original one for a year before this one) and I'm now ready to debrand it to get rid of all this orange bloat.
I've had a search and found a couple of walk throughs but I'm using a mac and I keep coming to steps I can't complete. For instance, one guide mentioned using Terminal and I simply couldn't get it to work. Another one said to put a file onto the SD card, but the SD card doesn't show up in Finder seperately to the phone memory.

So, does anyone know a way of rooting and changing the ROM using a Mac?

This link was posted many times at HUKD and I think my son used it successfully (with a PC though).

Re the SD card, do you not have 'Connect to PC' option in the 'Settings' list - with the option to select the connection as a USB HD?
Also you can take the SD card out and to use a card reader to connect it to your computer.
