Vent - Driveway problem

I have a shared drive with my neighbour

Can sort of see it here.

The black car is mine and on my side. The garage is also mine. I also have a house mate who has a car. The drive can easily accommodate two cars per side but I keep my car in the garage.

A few months back we had new neighbours move in.

All was fine but now he has 3 cars on his drive on his side just squeezed in. But a number of times now a fourth car has been on the drive blocking access to my garage and in some instances my drive.

I have knocked the door and he has been pleasant and moved the car but its starting to !!!! me off now. I should not have to keep knocking his door to get on my side of the drive. There is a pavement outside the house that could easily park a car and leave more then enough room for pedestrians. (For instance I live near a football ground and my road is rammed on match days. Two cars can easily park on the pavement) That should tell you how big it is.

But it seems his laziness of walking 10 foot from the pavement is an issue for him. He seems to do mechanical work on the cars as I have seen him removing and fixing stuff on these cars or sometimes they are friends cars who also block me in or out.

I don't wanna go around there and maybe ask him not to park there as he is my neighbour and I don't want to be at loggerheads with him.

But I am unsure what else to do to be honest.

Bah.

Woudnt have a shared drive again for this reason.

Wouldnt have a semi detached for similar reasons.

If I had the money I would have a moat and drawbridge or even better an island.

Nowone loves their neighbours - Well maybe the ones who live next door to the playboy mansion.

Get a big claxon horn, go round his house and when he opens the door blow it in his face for 2 seconds. Then say "Handy isn't it? I've got this and now when you've blocked my driveway, rather than knocking on your door I'll just blast this.... so much simpler isn't it". Then walk off.

At least that way you don't have to knock on his door in the future, which is ferkin annoying to do.

I think maybe dividing the space would be a good idea.

If you didn't want to go down the route of putting in a fence (even one of those small white chain link jobs would do, they are only thin and around a foot (ish) high), would there be enough space to mark the halfway point with long rectangular planters?

These are long and narrow so wouldn't take up much space but would make it obvious which side belonged to who.

    This could go wrong.

I've got visions of the poor guy walking away from the neighbours door like a cowboy and a claxton sounding with every step.

If you own the house, I'd get the deeds out and see where the boundary is. Then I would knock down your front garden wall, gravel it, and put a fence along the boundary between the two drives. You'll have loads of parking and he will be stuck. It will make the house easier to sell too as most people don't like shared drives. The down side is you won't be able to get to your garage - looks like you have to drive over his 'side' to reach it - but that might not be a problem if you are happy parking at the front.

Alternatively, you could politely make it clear that you don't want to have to ask him to move his car all the time. If he keeps doing it, go with the plan outlined above.
