Daily Mail: Hello? I'm on the plane... Mobile phones cleared for take-off on Virgin Atlantic jets

ZDNet: Virgin Atlantic lets airborne passengers use mobiles

Aeromobile, the network provider of the service, has UK roaming agreements only with Vodafone and O2. Therefore customers of Orange, T-Mobile, Three and consequently Virgin Mobile will be unable to use the service. This is unlike OnAir, the service provider on British Airways' LCY-JFK route which does have roaming agreements with all UK networks (except maybe Three).

Vodafone customers can use the £5 for 25MB/day Data Traveller option on aircraft, which makes the cost affordable. I don't think any other UK network has such a deal, but if you want to surf the net via your phone, it can be worth getting a Vodafone PAYG SIM card just for this purpose.

Its bad enough waiting for people to settle down, let alone some idiot sat next to you waffling in your ear.

Mind you its £1 per minute call so not likely to be too many in the chicken class who can afford it.

Yes, ridiculous, isn't it? Hopefully this will cause Virgin Mobile to put pressure on Everything Everywhere to sign a roaming agreement with Aeromobile.
