Think I ran a red light

Lights on amber - and one of those situations where I judged the car behind me to be too close.

Definite it was red when I crossed it.

Anyone experienced this? Outcome?

Please no fear-mongering.

Thanks.

Depends if there was a camera on it or no....

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Ohhh - can't say.

Let's assume there was - I didn't see a flash though? (Is this a myth)

You should really see a flash, two of them actually.

If there was you can expect a NIP in the post in the next two weeks. £60 and 3 points unless there is some sort of course they can offer.

If you do get one, that's when you can start checking to make sure they can make it stick. Visiting pepipoo will help then!

Case of waiting 14days to be certain. That's if the car is registered to you.

Considering the majority of traffic junctions don't have red light cameras and the ones they do often don't work anyway its unlikely you will get a fine.

If you know what juntion it is just google it, should be able to find out if it has a camera unless installed very recently

If your wheels crossed the white line in the red phase and there is a camera you could well have a NIP on the way. As with speeding offences, the police have 14 days in which to serve the notice on the registered keeper.

You may be offered a traffic light awareness course if the image was captured a short time into red. Such courses are offered by the Met, GMP and Leicestershire Police off the top of my head. There may be other forces offering them now. It was the above three last time I checked.
