How many shops to visit?

As you know, I only went to one shop and only tried on four dresses!!!
I am starting to feel a little bit sad that I will never try on wedding dresses again, but on the other hand, glad to have got it sorted. I also think there is no way I could get better than the dress I picked - i.e. what more could I possibly want? ...so I just went with it. Ordered and paid deposit on the day! Like Idiophreak's wife, very efficient!0 -
I went to three but only tried dresses on in two. The one I didn't was a bit snobby and 'oh you must stand by the door whilst I pull the dresses out, you can't touch them' and I just thought well I'm off, you can't make me stand here I want to have a look at as many dresses as possible not just the ones you claim I will like. So walked out. Not very welcoming at all. Good luck finding your dress
Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j0 -
I onlys spent one day dress shopping and wet to two shops. The first was run by a lovely older lady and I just tried on various styles to get an idea of what suited as I wanted to be quite open minded. I liked a couple but nothing really wowed me. In the second shop I explained what sort I was after and I picked a couple and the shop assistant picked some. I tried on one of her choices first, came out of the dressing room and my mum cried! Looked at myself I'm the mirror and loved it
I didn't want to make a decision straight away so I decided to go back the following week with one of my bridesmaids. I felt like the decision was almost too easy! Anyway, my bridesmaid loved it, I still loved it (and didn't want to take it off!) so that made the decision easy!
Honestly I was dreading dress shopping. I'm very short with massive boobs so I wasn't sure how it would work out. But actually I loved it, and like Daisy I'm kind of sad that it's over. But I definitely made the right decision (even if it was slightly over budget!)0 -
Wow I need to get looking at dresses if you're already asking for September 2013 :P
I think stick to a few key ones based on my friends' experience, most seem to have websites anyway so you can see what ranges they stock and maybe go to 2/3 you think are your sort of thing.
One of my best friends bought the first dress she tried on so hey there probably is no right answer

I didn't visit a single shop. They are too overpriced for me and full of bridezillas and nightmare MOTBs. I picked a design I liked from the internet and had a local seamstress make it for me from material I chose myself. I'm probably biased, but it was utterly beautiful. I know it is truly the only one in the world and it wasn't made by children in a sweatshop in India. It cost a fraction of the price of the high street and all the money was keep in the local economy.
My point is there are far more options than people realise and it is all too easy to get sucked into spending extortionate prices due to the wedding industry marketing.
Good luck with you wedding and marriage. I hope it is everything you are dreaming of.- Mortgage over-payments to date: = £16,746
- Original redemption date: August 2043
- Current redemption date: July 2041
- Debt: £15,930
- Savings: £12,430

Wow, nothing like a bit of stereotyping eh?
p.s. how would you know what the bridal shops are full of if you didn't go into one?

16 months isn't actually long, I know plenty of people who have bought theirs up to 2/3 years in advance. My rationale behind this is that it gives me time to hang out for a sample or preloved version of whatever dress I choose
.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

Took the words right out of my mouth!
The dress shop I went to had only one other bride who was having a fitting for her dress. Apart from that there were no bridezillas or scary MOB (unless that was me and mum and I didn't even realise!).
I'm not sure I could buy my dress years before my weddig! I probably would have waited until closer to the time had I known how easy it would be, but I was expecting it to take months to find something!
Jtr that's a great idea. The shop offered me 25% off if I bought the sample, and they'd dry clean & fix any damage so there are definitely some bargains around!0 -
I went to 3 different shops, the first was very expensive but I did find a dress I loved, then went to another one where I hated it and felt like I was imposing on them. Then I took a recommendation from my BM and went to the third.
I tried on lots and lots and the lady that owns the shop was brilliant and really made me feel special and in the end I found "the one" its simpler that I thought I would pick but my BM and CMB and mum all love it.

I spent 2 weeks trailing around the shops (20ish) and bought the very first dress in the very first shop i entered! Just wanted to make sure it was the one....it was!0
