Recommend me a family car?

Hi ,
I have a 3 door corsa at the moment, and am looking to change this for a 5 door car.
My main criteria is 5 door, decent size boot and low road tax running costs etc?

I'm looking to buy a used car with a budget of up to £3000.

Any advice would be great as I don't know where to start!

Thanks.

I don't think the road tax is particularly low, but we have had 2 volkswagon passets now (estates) and found them to be amazing cars. The one we have now is a diesal and we regularly get 60mpg out of it on a long run. Very reliable cars.

    I have a Hyundai i30 I like it.

The i20 also comes in a four door model but is a bit smaller.

I recommend the Skoda Octavia diesel too. I'm on my second one and I love it! I drive at least 500 miles per week and easily get 60mpg. Very reliable and massive boot. I was told it's basically the "Passat" with a Skoda badge and much cheaper!

I notice that there are not many on the road when I'm back in the UK but loads of them here in Ireland. And the roads here are bad compared to UK!

If I was "in the money" I'd upgrade to a Skoda Superb!

    Fiat Doblo.

Not the prettiest cars, but the mpg is great and they are huge (yet don't feel like you are driving a huge car).

I also recommend the Skoda Octavia diesel. Even check out the smaller and cheaper Fabia which in estate format will carry most things.

Hadn't read the size requiements when mentioning the octavia, it's not that big on the outside though,

Agree a Fabia estate might be an option for something a bit smaller.

I ran about in a late Mk3 Ford Mondeo for a few years as a family car and it was a very well built, solid and reliable car. Not sure how good an example you'd get for £3,000 but I would certainly have another one.

We have a 1.4 Renault Scenic and find it spacious for a family car. It's catorgory C for road tax. Huge boot and removable back seats (can adjust it to remove middle seat and move other two inwards to give more room if needed).
