Amazon Credit Card Charge - Is the law on their side?

I went to the FSA on this issue, but was not surprised when I didn't win.
It still seems unreasonable that the credit card company can specify a date for payment that they don't mean. Is it so difficult for them to only give deadlines when they are open to incoming payments? No - it's just another way they hope will trip you up.However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -
I have found MBNA to be a little 'slower' than my other credit card providers in dealing with Faster Payments around weekends and holidays. Indeed, due to my own fault, I have in the past been caught in the same situation as the OP.
In fairness to MBNA they did refund the £12 and poultry amount of interest when I apologised. I now have a DD for the minimum amount.0 -
How, exactly?0

Another issue here is that the banks' systems fall asleep on Friday afternoon and then wake up on Monday morning. Except, of course, they pretend that they are wide awake and processing your orders just like Amazon or E bay.
You think you've paid someone, or transferred money into an account to prevent it going overdrawn, but - lo and behold! - the transfer was suspended until the weekend was over. The computer systems had their weekend off, just like sensible people, and picked things up on Monday just in time to apply the overdraft fees and late charges.
I don't have an issue with systems closing for the weekend. I simply wish the banks would tell us WHEN WE USE THEM at the weekend!0 -

Are they right? Is the law on their side?
.
Well, they're certainly right to say that ultimately your responsibility to you to ensure your payments arrive by the due date.
But whether you actually allowed enough time is another matter.
It's not the law that's involved here, but rather the terms and condition of the particular card. If you get a paper statemnt, there will almost certainly be a load of information on the back describing the available ways to pay and how long to allow for each method. If you have online billing, there is probably the same info online. So check what they say, and if you allowed the time they quote for the method you used, then challenge it - if you didn't, then look on it as a lesson learnt.0 -
That'll be a lesson learned then. Because MBNA say on their website, and probably on the back of the statement too, that...p00hsticks wrote: »So check what they say, and if you allowed the time they quote for the method you used, then challenge it - if you didn't, then look on it as a lesson learnt.Faster Payments received by MBNA Mon-Fri before 4pm will reach your credit card account the same day. After 4pm, or on weekends and bank holidays, payments will reach your account the next working day. You will see a payment on your MBNA account the day after the payment is processed.0 -

Even this isn't consistently applied.
Faster payments made to my Cahoot credit card are credited within three hours whatever time of day, night or week it is.
They are by far the fastest in my historical portfolio of credit cards. Quite surprising given that Santander are in the background!
Amex don't physically reflect any payment by debit card for a couple of days, but the available credit shoots up instantly.
So many systems, so much inconsistency.0
