JSA - unable to sign on this week, what to do?

Hmm. I'm thinking of making it a 'sick day' in that case. I'm doing a self funded, part time course to ENHANCE my chances of getting employment and they may punish me? Ridiculous.
Think carefully before you do this. If they find out you were there while claiming to be sick, they may sanction you.
They may not sanction you if you tell them the real reason, I think it would all depend and you can appeal the sanction.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
I'm not familiar with JSA sign on criteria but is it possible for the OP to designate that sign-on period as a holiday or is this not an option?0
-
you can ask for a holiday and you wouldn't be expected to sign on. To be eligible for a holiday you have to be in the uk and available to start work or attend an interview and still be actively seeking work.
I would assume that if you were offered a job with immediate start you would be willing to postpone the course and start work so no problem there.0 -
Contact the job centre now.
you won't get an answer here
I would hope that common sense prevails and they can help you0 -

Going to give them a call today. Hopefully common sense will prevail but we're dealing with two things here:
a) an honest benefit claimant
b) the job centre
So I fully expect to be drowned in a sea of paperwork and payment delays.Think carefully before you do this. If they find out you were there while claiming to be sick, they may sanction you.

I really did consider it because I have no idea how they'd find out but, although honesty generally doesn't work, I simply can't be bothered to deal with the mountains of paperwork and interviews that this may result in.0 -

I did this last year when I had a two week holiday (booked before redundancy was announced) and I had to sign off and on again, bit of hassle. I'd hope that I don't have to do this again, but I probably will.0 -
Speak to the job centre-Worst scenario is theysanction you -and you appeal-best scenario is they sort it with common senseI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm another one who thinks it madness if you are sanctioned for doing a course - if it really will enhance your chances of getting employment.
I hope you get it sorted out, please let us know how you get on.0 -
If I was you I would call on the day and say you are sick, they will then make a new appointment for you to sign on....I would not normally say this but you are not shirking off you are doing a course for your long term benefit.....good luck0
