De-walt are ok, but they are just re-badged Black and Decker, and ok when priced as the B&D version, but masively overpriced for what is just a colour change.

BTW. There's a lot of bull talked about batteries these days. Lithium ion are NOT the panacea for one main reason. All have inbuilt a processor which counts the number of charges and discharges (charge cycles). For safety reasons these are finite on these batteries. Normally they are capable of many many more cycles but the manufacturers reduce it to err on the side of caution and one other vital factor - repeat business. If you buy a set you will find the batteries all mysteriously pack up around the same time due to what I've described. The best in terms of VFM is still NiMh by a country mile and will remain so for the forseeable future. DO NOT buy L-ion if you want longevity.

Out of interest , where did you get the information that there is an inbuilt counter? If there is a counter how come the manufacturers have such a broad performance indicator ,e.g. -

Li-ion battery provides 300 to 500 discharge/charge cycles or two to three years of service from the time of manufacturing.

Does the counter stop at 300 or 500 cycles? Does it time the two/three years?
    Forgotten but not gone.

As I said we use the 18v 3ah makita impacts. We have batteries over 18 months old and I would say on average they get charged around 4-5 times a day 5 days a week. Fag packet maths puts this at 1560-1950 charges and there is no noticable difference.

If an old codger in his 70s could put his opinion to you and say that drills are as good, on average, as the price that you pay at the till. You cannot expect a child in Kindergarden to survive very long in the workplace before burning out. This is a fact that will never change.

I have drilled many times through brick and the only type of drill that will survive repeatable constant work, is a corded drill, or if you want to spend around £200 upwards, then you might be seriously talking about competing with tough workloads.
