Complusive Gambler

Have you taken the steps to arrange your self exclusion from the places that you use for gambling. If you have online access these need to be closed asap. If you visit casino's or gambling shops/betting offices you will need to visit them to fill out a self exclusion form - photo is needed. It lasts for 1 year, and can be renewed automatically by ringing the company when the year is nearly up.
This basically a waste of time, if you need to gamble then you will find somewhere to do it. You can just go outside your area, or re-sign on to your accounts.
The only option is as you say, recognise your triggers and find something else to take away those thoughts.0 -
Hey guys thanks for the advice my trigger was I one a few bets and then I kept trying to win but theres only a certain amount of luck you can have. I then started gambling more and also got a loan out which I used to try and pay some of the debt off but I ended up just gambling that!
Anyway I am in a better frame of mind and I recognise my mistakes. A question I have been reading on the forum about an SOA when will I need to do one? I have done a quick brake down of my income and outgoings My rent and service charge come upto 1500 per calender month I live on my own in an apartment in east london is too much for the OR and secondly I cant cook it believe it or not so my groceries come to around £300 per month. For someone who lives on their own in london taking home £2200 a month are these 2 amounts rent and groceries too much everything is very modest. Thanks guys for reading my long yarn!0 -

Hi,
Well done on confronting the gambling issue. My father also had a gambling addiction so I know it's a hard one to crack.
If the apartment is a one bed and that's the going rent for your area then that will be fine. Just be aware that if the rent is substantially higher than the area average, the OR may query the rent.
Your grocery bill looks to be a bit high and might be queried, but don't forget to add in all your other expenses (haircuts, clothes, essential travel, UK holiday, emergency fund, dentist, opticians, etc.).

The average for a single person is £200 for groceries. Get yourself a student cookbook, check in the charity shops you will usually be able to pick one up there. Pop over to the Oldstyle Moneysaving board and the good people over there will be able to help you as well. Then as you become more proficient youwill be ableto expand your reportoire.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

hey guys thanks for the info my 2 bed flat is near the olympic park and its bloody expensive but convenient. Onto the groceries issue I come from a family of male cooks I pretty much am useless in the kitchen so thats why my groceries bill is roughly £300 per month. A question for you guys is one of the main reasons why I have a positive outlook is the fact that Im dieting and have dropped from a size 22 to a 18 will the OR frown upon gym membership?0

Well done on the weight loss, but as far as I am aware gym membership is not an allowable expense in BR.
In terms of groceries, my SoA showed £250 (including cleaning materials, etc) and that wasn't queried, don't know at what point they would query it though."Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're right" - Henry Ford0 -
I would certainly try with the £300 grocery bill, if you can't cook then you can't cook - the OR will have to make a judgement if this is fair or not - the key is 'reasonable expenses', is it reasonable to expect someone to have to learn a new skill because of bankruptcy?
The gym membership - if your doctor has ordered you to do it and you can get it in writing perhaps then they must consider it. Otherwise no (I asked the same question in my F2F).
Please report back if you have do try for either of these items.0 -
Thanks kation and the others for your sound advice as usual. A question for you guys now that I have a clear head and feel bankruptcy is the way forward the the numerous banks that I have defaulted with have started to send letters and try contacting me its been at least 2 weeks of constant bombardment when will they get the hump with me and what will they do next? When should I start bankruptcy proceeding as soon as possible or can I wait a few days or so because I have a few issues with my ex who thinks he can try marching back into my life as and when he wants0

Hi,
I find £300 pm for groceries perfectly normal for a single person. Certainly would be accepted in my local area without a thought, nevermind living in London!

Hi bankruptcy 123. just on the grocery front or all income expenditure questions. Each statement is meant to be individual to you and everyone has different needs. I cant promise that everything will be accepted by the OR but if you think you need a certain amount then you should put down what you need and then argue you point with the OR when the time comes.
