You haven't explained where you got the idea it might be illegal, but there is no law against you having all these accounts. But a bank is not legally obliged to open an account for you, they are entitled to think you won't be the sort of customer they want.

ABCBD just means their 2nd and 4th letter are the same, such as Jamal, Helen or Rufus.

OP probably needs help but I'm not sure this board can provide it
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

To the OP: Personally, I think that anyone viewing your list of accounts would have suspicions of money laundering whether that's your intention or not which could be the reason why accounts are being closed and opening accounts is being denied. Could be that you're also the subject of a current probe by HMRC.

Other than that there is nothing to stop anyone having more than one current account. Not illegal as far as I know.

Quite. There are no legitimate reasons to have that many current accounts. Literally, none. It looks stupendously odd.

There is nothing wrong in having multiple accounts with multiple banks. However too many and they may start asking questions.

I've closed a few old accounts recently just to streamline everything as the list was getting rather long. Just closed accounts with Citibank, Halifax, Barclays, Yorkshire BS and The Derbyshire. In addition to the list in my signature I also have accounts with Nationwide (Flex) and NatWest Standard current account which I'm keeping as a back up.

    I earn £1000 a month and i work for a resturant.

As i am the only earner in my family, it is also one of the main reason to have multiple current accounts with Overdreft facilities. In case of financial problems, i can use such facilities which are avaiable for me.

Are you telling us, that none of your 21 current accounts has any minimum monthly funding requirements i.e. they do not expect your wages (or at least several hundreds of pounds per month) to be paid into their account. or are you shifting your 1000 quid from one account to another (every night in a different bed..... oops..... account). And are you seriously telling us that all these banks (or even a significant number of them) have provided you with overdraft facilities, just in case your finances come a cropper?

I'm afraid, I do have difficulties with your story!
