Doorstep Clothing Collections

We had a charity bag put through our door from Clothesaid who are collecting for Battersea Dogs and Cats home.
I just fired them off an email - see below. I won't be chucking out their sack - it's an excellent bin liner.
We have a notice on our door that says “No Junk Mail” along with another one that stipulates no cold callers including charities.
Could you please ask the people who deliver your collection sacks to abide by these notices and not put them through our door. I will just be putting it straight in the bin and it will be a waste of your resources as well as my time.
Our post code is *********
Many thanks

I think I saw this on a episode of the real hustle, where they dropped these bags off, went through the goods and sold the best stuff out of the bunch.
I agree with above poster, they are great bin liners! Yay for recycling.0 -
We had one for the air ambulance only upon reading further it wasn't the genuine air ambulance which runs on donations it was a limited company . Mine went in the bin but it makes you wonder how many people fall for them thinking they are donating to a good cause
Was it this 'Limited Company'?
Welcome to GNAAS Trading Company Ltd
Our business was established by the Great North Air Ambulance Service and is committed to giving 100 per cent of its profits to the charity. We have grown to become the charity’s biggest single donor.
Recycling is our passion. We collect unwanted goods from Berwick in the North, to York in the South, from Whitby in the East to Whitehaven in the West. Our fleet of vehicles is 23 strong, staffed by 54 employees, and based at our two sites at Newton Aycliffe Business Park in County Durham and Skirsgill Business Park in Penrith, Cumbria.
While door to door clothing collections are the main source of our income, we also collect recyclable materials from businesses. Collections include card, paper, plastics, mobile phones and used ink/ toner cartridges. We also run a paper shredding service and have recently opened a discount shop at our Newton Aycliffe site which sells high street goods at up to half price.
I think you will agree that this company is a little different to some of the unscrupulous companies that have been previously mentioned on this thread. These guys do a great job and their site in Aycliffe is massive, ther collecting vehicles all carry the GNAAS logos and the charity is well supported up here - which it has to be as the costs are astronomical to keep these ambulances in the air.
Why we have to have a charity to fund such a vital and invaluable service is an argument for another day!0 -
So she was selling the stuff you donated... isn't that what all charities do? They sell for a profit then use that for good causes. Which leads me to the question, before you cast judgement on this woman, have you bothered looking at the accounts or finding out how the profits are spent?
Erm, she was selling the things to pocket the money herself!
All the charity bags that come through the door end up in the bin, I always take stuff straight to the shop.
I can't use the bags as bin liners as most of them have holes in.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
I received a reply from Clothesaid, the company that I emailed. They've asked that I put their bag in my local post box - LOL (it's never going to happen)
Maybe if more people complain they'll think twice about ignoring "no junk mail" signs? Who knows.
Here is their reply
Dear Cherie
Thank you for your e-mail.
I am sorry to hear that you are receiving bags despite our substantial efforts to address the issue of adhering to householder’s wishes.
We are aware that this is an issue we need to resolve and have been working with all our Area Managers regarding this; unfortunately it is taking some time for the message to get through to all of our distribution teams.
Unfortunately we cannot absolutely guarantee that you will not receive any more bags at this stage, however you can be assured that every effort is being made to prevent it from re-occurring; please could you provide us with your property number, so we can add your address to our no charity bags list.
Any bags you do not require can be placed into your local post-box as they are and they will come back to us.
Kind Regards
John

It would make sense for the charities to stop sending out these bags, as they are increasingly going to be dragged down by the scammers0

I regularly give unwanted goods and clothes to the local Salvation Army Charity shop and I know there is no scam involved there. We live near a big uni and there are always hard up students in there looking for a bargain.
I would never give to doorstep charity collectors.0
