we get at least 10 bags a week through the door - but for some reason i feel guilty using them for anything else such as rubbish.
not after reading this
this is what happened to me recently:
had a huge clear-out & a girl on a local web forum was asking for unwanted items to be dropped at a charity shop she ran.
i contacted her and asked which charities the shop supported - she advised of a couple, all related to poorly babies/children
i told her i had lots of kids clothes to donate, along with a buggy, some designer kiddie clothes: gucci, boss, armani etc, which i was going to put on ebay but would be happy to donate to such a good cause.
she offered to come pick them up the same day & the bags alone filled her large car boot.
for some strange reason she then added me as a friend on facebook & began messaging me asking if i had a spare cot, travel cot & moses basket...
i told her i did have a travel cot and asked who it was for - shock horror she admitted it was for her as she was pregnant.
immediate alarm bells rang & I had a nose at her facebook photos.
she had a "vicki's selling page" tagged in an album and low & behold there were my donated items up for sale
for the buggy her description was "i have only used this once and will take no less than £50 - NO OFFERS!!!!"
no mention whatsoever of funds going to poorly babies.
totally gutted & lost all my faith in humanity0 -
You should have waited untill someone asked about the items and then messaged them telling them she was a lying bag, and also there are scammer pages on facebook which list people like her0

that's absolutely disgusting. I hope you posted all over the page that you had donated them under the guise of being for a children's charity and reported her to facebook too. quite frankly I'd be minded to go back and get all of the items back, although whether you could do that legally would be another story!
OP I know you got duped but you are clearly a lovely person to be willing to give away such quality and expensive items to charity - remember what goes around comes around.0 -
Wait until you have 3 or 4 bags full and take them to your local rag dealer yourself, you can then donate the cash or treat yourself, a binbag full is worth about £4-£5 these days.
The doorstep collectors go to the very same dealers but keep the cash.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Personally, I am less interested in trying to make a £5 profit when it comes to donating to charity.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Sadly even a proper charity number on it is NO SAFEGUARD!!!0 -
We had one for the air ambulance only upon reading further it wasn't the genuine air ambulance which runs on donations it was a limited company . Mine went in the bin but it makes you wonder how many people fall for them thinking they are donating to a good cause :mad:0

I never donate clothing to anyone who puts a bag through the door. I've even found the reputable charities generally unreliable and normally end up having to bring a soggy bag of clothes in from the rain where no-one's bothered to come and collect it. I now always take my unwanted stuff down to the local hospice shop and use the bags that come through the door as bin bags, they're normally good quality so would be a waste to throw away.0

Ive had 4 bags and one of these flyers through the door this week, I use them as bn liners now.
I think I'm going to do a laminated sign up next to the door saying 'NO CHARITY BAGS'
That's all I get (apart from mail, junk mail & bills!:p) come thru my letterbox now,no bags just the stickers.I think the company's running these must be getting wise to the bags they provide not being used for donations thus cutting their costs & just posting the stickers.
I have some clothes here for recycling, thankfully the's a place I pass on the way to the ASSISI Animal Sanctuary (where I volunteer) so I'm going to drop them off there at the shop, get the dosh & give that to ASSISI when I get there.0 -

So she was selling the stuff you donated... isn't that what all charities do? They sell for a profit then use that for good causes. Which leads me to the question, before you cast judgement on this woman, have you bothered looking at the accounts or finding out how the profits are spent?0
