Surely not, a youngster that can't be bothered to do their own research.
I'm sorry but that's just rude (a) for stereotyping students as lazy (b) for calling me lazy when you don't know me and (c) for ignoring me saying several times I don't want to register a domain. I don't come here to be talked down to, I'm here to get help and have a civilised discussion.
I've even given reasons and explained why I don't want to register my own domain, maybe if you gave advice on what was asked, not something different...
And this is a forum, the point is to get peoples point of view and experiences, its nothing to do with having other people do the work, its about finding out what other people use, recommend, dislike, so that I can make an educated decision not an uneducated one.
i.e. doing research0 -
When you have finally removed yourself from your bed, got dressed and found some left over curry for breakfast. I understand that your kind might allergic to a razor blade so I'll allow the bum fluff.
You can not get uppity when someone tries to give you some advice because as you said this is a forum to get others varying "points of view" and not to get the world to do your work and research.
I find you
a) lazy
b) see a
and c ) can't be bothered..
Good luck with the breakfast.:)Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
I've been up, showered and fed since 8am and studying, as I have been pretty much everyday for the past month because I'm currently sitting exams. Don't judge me, you don't know me.
I didn't get the uppity when someone offered advice, I very politely explained why I didn't want to register a domain. I took offence when you started making personal comments for no good reason.
I was looking at various options for free email addresses which met my needs, you gave advice about something else, then seemingly took offence when I explained I wasn't interested. For the record, I know about registering a domain, and how it works and the benefits, I don't need to research it. But as I've explained that's not what I'm looking for.
By your reasoning everyone on the forum is lazy because they are asking for advice instead of working it out by themselves.0 -
Sorry no offence was meant, just in a jokey mood after reading these..

Not sure why you say Yahoo won't allow imap?
i just tested and appears to work ok.
If you don't want a Yahoo.com or yahoo.co.uk address, then when you register a new account at Yahoo, there is the option with the drop-down menu to choose @ymail.com
How does that sound?

1) I use Yahoo IMAP, a bit of a google will find you the settings
2) Googlemail will work using Microsoft Exchange protocols which is quite attractive as you can make calendars etc. sync with computers and mobile devices.
3) If you have your own domain it can forward to an account from one of the big providers me@mydomain@co.uk forwards to me@googlemail.com0 -
It looks like I will have to test out Yahoo's IMAP abilities, I know a while back I spent ages trying to get it to work without success. IMAP was only meant for mobile devices and from reading Yahoo's FAQ advice about using IMAP still only appears in their mobile section.0

There are an awful lot of different answers on the net when settings are discussed.
Some even suggest using non-secure ports.
My settings use SSL encryption in both directions, (inbound / outbound)
If any help to you, this is what i tested, and i didn't appear to get any Yahoo ads in the footer of the sent mail.
But test it for yourself by sending to one of your other addies..
First, create a new IMAP account in your mail client
using these settings:
You must use your full Yahoo e-mail address as the User Name.
You cannot use just your Yahoo ID
Account Type: IMAP
Incoming mail server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
DO NOT check the box, 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication' (SPA)
"Remember password" Checkbox: Checked
also check: My outgoing server requires authenication,
'Use same settings as my Incoming mail server'
Advanced Tab:
Incoming server (IMAP): 993
Encryption Level: SSL
Outgoing server (IMAP): 465
Encryption Level: SSL
To be secure, SSL needs to be selected as the Encryption Level for both Incoming and Outgoing
and the ports used as shown above, Incoming 993 and for Outgoing 465
Some people seem to suggest that Yahoo may put in ads on outgoing mail if you use the
smtp.mail.yahoo.com mail server,
i didn't see that in my tests but test it for yourself,
if they do, then try replacing it with
smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

Wow, that actually works, not tried the whole advert thing yet but just impressed its actually downloaded the folders and stuff.
Definitly did not do that when I tried last, but that was probably over a year ago, and given the negativity regarding IMAP and yahoo with a quick google search I'd figured the situation was still the same.
That requires some thought, I've set up a GMX.co.uk account and it seems to work nicely too.
I guess I'll see how the Yahoo IMAP functions and make my decision from there, thanks0
