Good Free Email Provider

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help, I need a more professional ( or less stupid) main email address, which at the minute is with Yahoo.

There doesn't seem to be that many options, I'd really like one that offers IMAP.

So far I've kinda ruled out

Gmail - It downloads the folders funny and its too popular, the chances of getting a decent, relevant and short email address are slim.

Yahoo - No IMAP

Hotmail - Actually I don't have many problems with it, but I know it isn't thought to be very secure

AOL - I just don't like

So yeah any suggestions, I'm having a real issue trading off between a big name I can trust and one where I can get a sensible email address and the features I need, thanks.

  • I prefer googlemail for its features, but mail.com has a great range of domain names to add you name to for free.

Does it have to be free? You could register your own domain for a couple of pounds a year.

Hi guys, GMX looks good, I guess I'm just a bit worried about using a less well known company.

I do have a googlemail account, but its stupidly long including my name and date of birth cause it was the only decent one available.
Plus the IMAP downloads a stupid "[Google Mail]" folder in windows live mail, which can't be hidden and as far as I can tell serves no purpose.

Ideally free tafelmoneysaver, just finishing uni and don't have an income as of yet, plus in terms of ease and the hassle of finding an available and appropriate domain name, lol

But you said it yourself, trade off between unknown company, or a well known one and long email address.

Cake and eat it springs to mind.

I'm plus 1 for own domain, cost about a fiver a year.

If you want to have a professional-looking address, get a domain - cheap as chips and you get email to <whateveryoulike>@yourdomain.co.uk at like a tenner for 2 years. You can have everything forwarded to your GMail and send email from your accounts via GMail, so you get the GMail advantages
as well - including the Android client etc.

Guys, I understand the benefits of setting up a domain, but honestly its complications I can't be bothered with. And yes it doesn't cost much initially, but you don't know how much you will have to pay to keep it a few years down the line. And as I've said its only professional if you can find a good domain that applies to you, which is easier said than done. I'll look into it and I know its an option, but I'd rather just get a simple address for now.

As for having my cake and eating it, well it'd be kinda pointless to have it and let it go stale... And yes there is trade-offs but I'm relying on you people to find the optimal solution which minimises the negative trade-offs.

And I do appreciate the help, so thanks all :)

    Minimises the workload you mean?

Doesn't sound like someone that's just left uni? Surely not, a youngster that can't be bothered to do their own research.
