Car security / insurance
My wifes car has been broken into overnight - drivers door lock barrel been forced and is now loose and insecure, and bodywork damage around it. Annoying thing is, nothing taken, just ransacked....
She has rung insurance company (Kwikfit) and reported it. They insured the car through Provident who are not open until Monday!
Although the car is locked using the passenger door lock, it is easily unlocked from the damaged drivers lock without a key, therefore leaving the car unsecured
As insurance cannot help until Monday, how does she stand if anything else happens in the next 48 hrs? i.e they come back and remove radio etc, or try to force ignition nick car.....

I would think you will need to take reasonable steps to secure the car.0

What would u suggest??
The car is currently on our drive, where it was overnight. There is enough space behind it for me to block it in, but I will be at work for 12 hrs tomorrow.0 -
can you park somehow with the drivers door against a wall or hedge and climb out of the passenger door?0
-
Yeah, can do that no prob. One side of drive is 10ft conifers.....0

Remove the battery.0

i assume there is no alarm or immobiliser on it then.
to prevent them pinching it in the mean time remove the battery.
hop to scrappy and get a temp door lock barrel with key.
and put a kind note on the front window, SMILE YOUR ON CCTV!!!.0 -
Alarm - no, but has immobiliser, so that does give some protection from theft. It is now parked right up against the conifer trees, so no access to drivers side. Passenger side is fairly exposed so hopefully no-one will try again.....
Just got to sit and wait for insurance co. on Monday now0 -
An immobilser should stop them driving the car away. TBH I would have gone down to argos/halfords and got a cheap wheel clamp just to be sure though.
Can you remove the battery?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Not done battery, as my car is now parked behind, and mine has alarm & immobiliser0

How annoying, had mine done in January.
Sad sign of the times but probs worth fitting an alarm - I never thought it would be necesary to do my Metro with one, but I think it was £20 (plus a good few hours fitting it with a mate) well spent.
The theives stole £15 worth of sat nav when they broke in and caused damage to the tune of £300 by breaking in and trying to hotwire the thing.
Sounds safe to me now though - theives not likely to reurn to the scene of a crime now.0
