Op - contact a local repairs guy and ask him to diagnose the cooker and give a professional opinion as to the cause of this.

If the fault is inherent the send it along with a copy of the guys invoice along with a letter insisting they offer a remedy under sales of goods act and reimburse your costs.
I can't believe it took 20 posts for someone to say this. :T

Sorry to be a pain again, do I need to replace all elements or approach with trial and error? Is the main oven one likely to be the culprit?

    Thanks

Well, that,s the question unfortunately. Find out how to reveal the oven element and then have a look and see if it is clearly blown - it will likely have a bulge in it somewhere if it is. If it looks ok then inspect the grill/top oven one.

The other thing I found useful was to do a google search with the make/ model number and the fault e.g. Such and such keeps tripping my circuit breaker (or whatever). You'll likely be surprised athe number of forums there are where people discuss such things. It has certainly opened my eyes to willy-nilly calling in a repair man at the first sign of trouble. The only thing I will not attempt is plumbing as I tried in my younger days and always ended having to get the plumber in. You need too many special tools etc nd they are expensive to buy.

HTH. Let us know how you get on.

My oven blew, would trip the circut occasionally, fan started but no heat.

Four screws removed the backing inside the oven, one screw removed the heating element (Cannot stress enough how important it is to unplug if possible else wise throw the circuit breaker for the oven, I was too much a wimp and just shut the entire house off from the electrics and threw screws at the element to see if there were any sparks), got a new element for £10ish and did the same in reverse and all tickty boo.

With our cooker the oven and top oven stopped working, I found a web site were you can ask a proffessional for small amount of money (you can take a monthly sub - they have loads of different proffesionals) they told me that in my particular cooker there is a thermostat for the bottom oven which sounded like it had gone, we had a look ourselves and couldn't see the part, got a sparky, told him what we had been told and hey presto for 1/2 work taking the thing out, had it working, been fine since.

I found the fiddliest bit was the bit you didn't seem to need to do according to your post. Releasing and re-fitting the cables to the element. I'd never actually seen the paticular type of connector before.
