No1 DS will be 46 this year  ! Doesn't seem possible.
He is attempting the 100k in 24 hour London-Brighton walk today - he is just starting out from Richmond Deer Park now, and will walk - along with hundreds of others - to Brighton Racecourse - 100 kilometers - non-stop, and hopes to reach Brighton by 7am tomorrow morning!
He is doing this in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, who were so absolutely wonderful at the end of 2010, when we were told that my DH had only weeks to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - the Macmillan team went into overdrive when we said we wanted him home, and all the equipment, support services etc were arranged within 24 hours - and they continued to give on-going support - advice on tweaking his medication, etc etc until the end - and after.
Now, to give something back, No1 DS is doing this walk. He's not an athlete - couch sportsman is more his bag these days
- but he's been training, walking 10 miles to work and 10 miles back through the pouring rain (back at 10pm at night) - and he thinks he's ready for it.
We all wish him well - and know that Dad would be so proud of him.
At the moment, he has raised over £600 by sponsorship and the justgiving pages - and the group that he has attached to (through Facebook!) stands to raise over £15,000 for Macmillan!!

I am sorry for your loss, cancer is a very cruel disease. However I am glad that at the time you all recieved such great help and support. My own family have also benefited from the same care a few years back.
How brilliant of your son to be doing this walk and trying to raise money for such a fabulous organisation. In a world that can appear all take, take, take it is inspiring when someone decides to give something back.
You are right to be so proud. I live down on the South Coast and the weather is forecast to be lovely this weekend, which will make it all far more pleasant for him too hey.
Thank you for sharing this OP, it has made me smile. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
