  • They are very stupid surveyer. One undervalued my property 50%
  • Just wanted to put my (positive) story on here.

29/11 Agreed to go ahead with HSBC for our mortgage (Saturday)
01/12 Call from countrywide to confirm details and take payment (Monday)
08/12 Survey carried out (exactly 1 week later, meanwhile t&cs had been received, signed and returned)
10/12 Notification from HSBC, mortgage valuation accepted
11/12 Copy of mortgage valuation received in post. Email received containing full homebuyers report.

Overall a smooth and timely transaction.

  • Today my house sale failed because of an administrative error by Countrywide. They lost an email 'because it arrived outside business hours'. That email would have meant that 4 sales would have gone through. A family with two small children would not have been waiting for hours with their furniture in a van, only to be told it wasn't going to happen. A whole day chasing them, and they found the email at 5pm. I'm speechless. I'd advise anyone to keep away from them.
  • hi, ask for a data subject request, make sure you register the letter, thaey will ask for payment of £10/12.

Then any correspondence will be sent to you,
on another note, it will also annoy them as they will have to go through all information they have on you and post it out.
check the INFORMATION COMMISSIONERS OFFICE (IC0) you will find all the info on there website.

  • We had a homebuyers report done through Natwest by these clowns that said there was no structural problems we went ahead and bought the house in 2012. We paid £160000 for the house and we are now facing repair costs of £200000 pounds. These problems country wide are still refusing to admit liability for. They sent out a so called independent surveyer who told us we needed to get a builder to professionally fill in the cracks and offered us £2000 pounds compensation. Now three and a half years later and several thousands of pounds later we are still being fobbed off by there hench man like insurance company and lawyers. I would not wish this company on my worst enemy. This company should be shut down.
  • We had our survey over a month ago and the surveyor noted that there was an outbreak of Japanese Knotweed (1 strand) We told him that our site is currently under a 5 year treatment plan. We forward the guarantees, warranty and t&c's 3 weeks ago and have been trying to conclude the issue. We cannot speak to him direct, First Direct cannot either so we have 3 layers of communication via Countrywide to plow through for every phonecall or email. Intolerable frustrated flawed process and First Direct are totally helpless to do anything.:rotfl::rotfl::mad:

Countrywide Surveyors came to survey our property yesterday and found 1 strand of Japanese Knotweed and have seen in their report that they think the property is worth 'nil'. This is a property worth in the region of £500,000. It is very likely that my proposed lender will refuse to lend.

Surely, a bit of knotweed can be managed. I've seen people with large trees within metres of their homes - the roots of which can potentially cause more damage.

We have lived in this property for nearly 30 years and there has been no damage to the property what-so-ever.

It was almost with glee the surveyor from Countrywide declared, 'Found it!'

How can they be allowed to do this to peoples lives!?

It is likely that any lender will want to see a treatment plan in place, from someone like this firm: http://www.environetuk.com/

Unfortunately it is something that surveyors are eagerly looking for these days, it was virtually unheard of until a few years ago.

erm, because they're working on behalf of the lender to advise that the property is suitable to lend on..otherwise the lender would be out of pocket and the surveyor would have a hefty claim to deal with....
  • I booked in an appointment several weeks ago to have a survey completed on my property today. I waited in between the hours of 9 and 1, as asked, but no visit was made and l i received no call from them to tell me otherwise. I then called Countrywide to find out the whereabouts of the surveyor, only to find out that the appointment has been changed to 5th January, without any consultation with me. Despite having my contact details, no contact had been made with me regarding this change. I now have to arrange to take yet another day off work and all the advisor could say is 'these things happen sometimes.' Very unhelpful, poor communication. Sub-standard in every way - if i'd had a choice i wouldn't have chosem them to complete the survey based on the terrible reviews i have read. Avoid if you can.
  • I know this is an old thred but you can use any valuation surveyor you want. There's no need to change the law. You can totally disregard the bank/lender and choose your own.
