Mrs_Cookie wrote: »LOL is it Dandelion??? You can grow Wild Garlic (Allium ursinum) from seed JJ, holler if you want a supplier, it likes shady damp areas but it's VERY invasive.
Good little book called Cooking Weeds by Vivien Weise if you can get hold of a copy cheaply, got loads of veggie recipes in using free food like Daisy, Dandelion, Nettle etc. I love making stuff with free food although I haven't been doing so much of it lately. Sipping lemon balm tea from the garden at the minute which grows like a weed in my garden.
Ohh with this post I got my first star lol! What does that mean?
Yes:T
It was dandelion leaves!!!
I prepared the soup with onions, garlic, a cubed potato, sliced greens (that were 10p last night). I let these start off simmering and I went to forage for some remaining dandelion leaves. Found a few:o
I added my flat leaf parsley for good measure with seasoning.
It was so tasty, I didn't need stock.
I said to OH when discussing plans for next year, that I will make sure I get rid of any dandelions if I am allowing the shady lawn to return to an unmown state. Now I have changed my mind. I will just remove flower heads before they are allowed to shed and then I can harvest the leaves.
I am lucky in that my garden is secluded and no foxes, etc can enter. I also have no pets so I am confidant to harvest and eat them without worrying about urine, etc
I didn't know you can buy wild garlic seeds:j
I don't mind invasive. I'm so glad they like shade. They will do great in the currently lawned area under the mountain ash tree.
Cheers me dears (and thanks for the links!)
Ps, congrats on your star!!!!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Hi all.
A spend of £31.30 today at Morries. Will update my sig in a minute.
MrsCookie- well done on your 1st star..it means your addiction to MSE is growing
JJ- i love the look of that soup! Is the recipe for your herb bread roll things on the GC recipe list on p1?
Florenceem- can i ask where you get your fruit and veg from please? Its always our fruit and veg that stretches our budget, as we like lots of it, and its not cheap most of the time, even though we try to eat whatever is in season.
I should be getting £120 today from selling my uni books. The womans husband is coming to pick them up this evening. So that'll go straight into the bank.
Have a nice afternoon everyone!0 -

We buy a lot of veggies/fruit - super six - Al.. and in Li..
There is a greengrocer in town - has a casualty box - bags of fruit/veggies either 25p or 50p. Mr F goes in there - if he thinks they are not worth 50p - he offers 25p for a bag - usually the offer is accepted!
I bought 5 mangoes when they were 39p at Al.. - they were big - we had half of a mango between us - then - Mr F does eat the mango skin! :eek:Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

My dog needs a new collar - if I buy one - what money pot do I take the cash from?
I have a pot for trips/clothes & hair/Christmas & Birthday presents/cookware/rail pass/shopping savings - no dog one!
When Mr F needed a new watch strap - I had the same problem. I solved it by making him one - using a pair of jeans given to me for fabric. I will have a go at making the dog - a matching collar. :rotfl:
Here is the watch strap - still going strong - cost nothing - I used the hardware off the broken strap.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Could you please put me down for £200 for June? This is for me, DH, and 3 cats. Starts tomorrow and goes till 29th June. This will be all food, cat food and litter, toiletries, cleaning and washing products.
I have already spent about £95 of that (Mr T to confirm on delivery). This has all the cats stuff, milk, bread flour, most of the toiletries, and the food until a week on Saturday. We already have in our carb staples (pasta and rice and some potatoes) for the month, and enough washing powder/toilet roll/cleaning products. So hopefully all we will need are fruit, veg, and some dairy. Fingers crossed!Live the good life where you have been planted.

Thanks Flo and JJ, much appreciated
Tonights dinner is a mish mash of all different things. I need to use up all the leftover things in the freezer, to free up some room. So, there are 5 chicken nuggets (HM), 10 mini sausage rolls, garlic bread and spaghetti hoops for dinner, LOL!!
Kids think it's really funny, and a treat, so i guess its OK.0 -

It was the parsley that threw me, looked frilly round the edge like nettle! Nooo don't get rid of the dandelions! You can make soup, salad, a coffee substitute, eat the petals, make honey with them, syrup and even cookies!!! Your recipe for dandelion soup sounds a bit like one I make, very tasty. Make sure you use young leaves, old ones will taste VERY bitter, young ones are sweeter. Harvesting the roots to dry for coffee making? Then harvest in the autumn when they're full of natural sugars which will make the coffee have a sweeter aroma and taste less bitter! Will PM re wild garlic seedsJune 2012 GC £52.49 / £300.000 -
Ever think you might be taking things a little far? Needed to replant some of my veggie seedlings into a hanging basket today and couldn't find the basket liner I thought was in the shed. As a substitute I used dryer lint from the pile in the shed next to the tumble dryer. Real split personality moment in my head - part of me is cringing and part doing a football style celebration going FREE!:rotfl:
NSD after all:D0
