Welcome to all the new joiners, great to have you with us, although I am still new too, this is my 3rd month.
And to whoever asked, DR is Donald Russell (online meat) and there is a list of abbreviations but not sure where, I am sure someone will provide a link soon.0 -

Welcome to challenge SusanP - I'm sure you will be able to make very big savings over time - I know I have!
I have a few more minor spends to add but only on essentials. One more week to go and I'm already over my budget but I have nearly all meals in. Need milk, bread, fruit and veg. though. I've managed to get a few YS goods recently including fresh fish for a fish pie (£3.29 reduced to 84p).

Hi all
Today will be nsd. Am not going anywhere, working from home as full of cold and cba going in and infecting the office. So other than a walk to nursery and back, morning and afternoon, I'm staying put.
Have some cold and flu capsules in meds box, so will start using those. And lots of tea, I think...
Welcome to all newbies. This is my first month, and I've learnt my children go through more nappies than I first thought. Lol. But it's given me focus, and I go shopping a lot less frequently than I have done previously. Am hoping to get within budget and shave off £50 or £60 next month.

Thanks. I've had a look, but it doesn't really seem any cheaper than buying at the supermarket? :undecided I'm presuming that i'm missing the point somewhere! :rotfl:Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -

Hello Bikingbint - We had a similar thing with my MIL, who I still miss very much. She had dementia, which I wouldn't wish on anyone. She would leave some of her dinner saying she was full, then eat a huge pudding! :rotfl:We learned to laugh, otherwise...
Anyhow, when we had to go to see her every day, as part of her care package, we made meals in small freezer boxes which we took out each night for the next day's meals.
She liked corned beef hotpot, beef stew and dumplings, thick broth, pan haggerty, you get the idea. Old fashioned meals from war time. We batch cooked and put into single portion boxes in the freezer, so we could ring the changes for her. She loved ice cream, and we snuck fruit into her in yogurts, and under custard! You could even keep some of the SM packets to hide the boxes in if it helps to get her to eat proper food
You can freeze quiche, just the pastry goes soggy if you don't eat it fairly quickly when you thaw it out. It's better crisped/heated in the oven.
Hope this helps.
Yes it does help thankyou, mother lives with us, so it is a matter of what ideas i can come up with, have tried a few new recipes from the front page here and my husband and i thought they were great but mother left hers:eek:
She spends all day eating cakes, chocolate and biscuits (which she buys for herself) then leaves her tea.:wall:

How about Sausages and Mash? You could cook and portioned up into one person meals and then freeze and defrost as needed adding beans or veg and gravy?
I save the containers from takeaways and use those to portion up andfreeze individual meals for my children as they eat earlier than me and DH, shepherds pie, fish pie, meat Pie and potatoes would all work well this way. You could batch cook and freeze to save you effort and time. Once defrosted I pop the meal on a plate and microwave to heat.
How about jackets with sausage and beans or savoury mince?
Toad in the hole can be cooked and frozen
DH has just suggested beef suet roll or liver and bacon.
Hope that helps, good luck! X
Thanks for the ideas, I just seem to have come to a dead end regarding ideas for her meals. It can be so frustrating as you think you have found something she likes and serve it again for it to be left.

Hi
Would just like to thank you all for taking the time to reply to my questions, the list of things to try to get her to eat is getting longer and there are some great suggestions I just hadn't thought of.
Your time and effort is greatly appreciated
