google chat / voice calls

hi , does anyone know how good gogle voice / chat is?
ive installed the app on my phone as i thought it would save me money on my phone bills. my question which i cant seem to find the answer for is...
my friend lives in america they have google chat on her pc , i live in UK , can i chat to her on my mobile through google chat/ voice for free?

    Yes you just both have to login in, its like skype.

    I read it was free if u are in America and call the Uk. I got a bit muddled as i thought it said it wasnt free outside America and Canada. I didnt want trying to sabe money to end up costing more money. So thats great its free!Thanks.x

    im not sure...this is why i got muddled....i dont want to contact them on thir landline or mobile phone...just wanted to talk to them through google chat or voice.

    Google Voice is not a VOIP service but similar to Flextel in the UK, i.e. a PSTN service. You get a phone number that you can forward to other multiple phone numbers.
