Like many others I have been with Abbey for a long time - over 20 years. In the beginning they offered many advantages over the traditionl banks - "any branch" banking, bill payments via ATM, easy switching of money between accounts, deposits via ATMs, which a lot of banks at the time didn't do. However, other banks have now caught up with them. I have had a few problems with them but I would say no more than I might expect from an organisation I have been with for 20 years and several thousand transactions. Recently they had a lot of problems with their online banking and ATMs, see this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=458413, and have shown no inclination to let their customers know what is going on. So I have started the process of switching bank accounts, as have generally found them less responsive and useful since the takeover.

You better not have any problems with your account, the people working in the call centre in India are arrogant and when you don't say what they want to hear they put the phone down on you. It was done to me twice on a same day when there was problems with the online E banking a few days ago.
I believe that you see the quality of a company when things go wrong and you need them to sort out your existing problem, then you can see how good their customer services are.
Online banking, when there isn't any problems with it, is smooth running and reliable, but the customer service, when you need to call them, has definitively gone worse. Shame......

Hi frostiecuk... had a look at your website, quite a catalogue of incompetence. One thing they have changed... the link to their complaints procedure http://www.abbey.com/customer_satisfaction no longer works! (404 file not found) I have just discovered that a payment I made to my new bank account on Sunday hasn't arrived yet... so they're not even complying with the clearing banks own "three working days" rule now.
  • Thanks Frostiecuk. I've just posted a link to your website on my Abbey blog.
