We have a new local Avon rep. She's doing our area next week and will be leaving a brochure. I haven't used Avon, or even looked at a brochure for about 20 years . So I'm totally out of touch with how the quality is these days. I was just wondering if there any particular products you recommend, and any to avoid?
I remember I used to like the perfumes (especially the prices) but it was always hard to get a sample, I think the rep has to pay for them.
Any advice welcome.

I may be biased by posting this reply but I used to be an Avon rep and accumulated a lot of stuff during this time. I use and like the shower gels and bubble baths, especially when they're on offer. I quite like their underwear too, although haven't bought any from them for a few years so not sure if the quality is the same. I really like Far Away on the perfume side as the smell does last all day on me but have felt some of the others haven't had the same effect.
With regards to samples, the rep does have to pay for samples but it all depends on how good your rep is at providing them. Some reps will give samples with every or almost every order and some don't give samples at all. I know Avon used to sometimes give reps samples if a new perfume/make up product was coming out so the reps could push that product but not sure if they still do that.
You could always ask your rep if she would provide samples so you know if you like something. The only other way which you may not want to do is if you buy a perfume you think you may like then find you don't like it get a refund back on it. I think you have 16 days to return items if you're not happy. Again you will have to check this as like I said it's been a few years since I was a rep.
Hope this helps a little bitDid owe £9,951.96

Products I like - the hand and foot creams (the glycerin handcreams are wonderful if you have very dry hands). The Skin Soft body lotions are really good. I also like the shower gels and handwashes as they come in nice smells and are cheap.
Products I don't like - the make-up. They seem to have made a lot of their packaging look high-end, but I think the quality is not as good as 'drugstore' brands that you can buy on the high street. I am not keen on the skincare (I have only tried samples) especially as some of the face creams are quite expensive. All the bags and jewellery I have seen (my mum's friend is a rep) seemed quite cheap and tacky.0 -
Thanks very much both of you. Very worthwhile to know about the return policy too.
The rep has actually put the brochure through this morning, there's so much to choose from! I agree about the jewellery, it doesn't even look good in the pics so it will be horrible in real life, I reckon.
I'm definitely interested in shower gels, body and hand creams etc so I'll have a good read of it to see what I fancy.
Thanks again!0 -
I really like the bags and jewellery (!), love the daily results shampoo, roll-on deodorant and dry end serum. Like the brow glimmersticks in blonde and the bronzer too. I too used to be a rep and it was much easier for a customer to try something and if they didn't like it just send it back. Getting samples gets expensive - I would much rather they ordered the perfume, tried it once and if they didn't like it I would send it back.
Shower gels, bubble baths are pretty good. Not keen on the facecare but lots of people were.0 -
One of my colleagues does Avon. She's worn lots of Avon jewellery to work which always get compliments and people seem pleasantly surprised to hear that they're from Avon (which I can totally understand!). The items she's worn haven't looked cheap or low quality at all but it probably varies.
One of Avon's big selling points is their returns policy so do ask your Rep about that and don't be afraid to return anything you're not happy with. I like the fact that they always have lots of special offers and GWP offers so I never pay full price on anything.
The product I've heard most praise for is the Anew Clinical Eye Lift Pro. Not tried it myself yet but lots of my colleagues stock up when it's on special offer (which it seems to be quite often so don't pay full price!)
My fave Avon product is their Glimmerstick eyeliner (regular version, not Diamond ones which were a bit disappointing). Very creamy, go on easily and doesn't need sharpening. Not exciting but always a staple item in my make-up bag.
I only bother with the cosmetic/beauty items because I find that the other stuff (jewellery, accessories, clothes, home items etc) doesn't tend to look as nice or as good value but that's just my personal opinion.
The Avon website has product reviews if that helps

The only Avon item I like is the Visual Perfection Tinted Moisturiser (SPF20) which they discontinued. I bought several on Ebay though.:)
I found Avon showel gels and handwash very, very cheap and nasty and didn't suit my skin.
Our local Avon rep is a fright and enough to put you off Avon for ever. Bleached blonde hair which is frizzed to death and looks terrible, bright blue eyeshadow and clothes from the 1980s.:rotfl:0 -

She sounds better than mine though, bag lady doesnt even come into it and rude too, I found a glimmerstick eyeliner in my supplies which I have on today and it has lasted beautifully even though I'm suffering with hayfever eyes, I liked the anew face powder (pressed) but I can find just as good cheaper and from the high street, all the perfume and smelly products I found to be cheap in smell and texture, the face creams etc are far too chemically in my opinion and make my skin flare up.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
I like the Lotus shield hair stuff as I find it keeps my hair smooth longer so I don't have to straighten it so often. I wouldn't pay full price for it though, I stock up when it's on offer. I have bought make up which I find quality-wise to be fine, but then I don't use make up often and so don't buy expensive stuff, so am only comparing Avon with my cheap stuff.
My favourite product is a lip balm called chocolate brownie, which has a very slight tint but isn't garish like the other tinted lip balms I've tried. I've just stocked up on those as they were in the last sale catalogue for 99p each.
The skin so soft dry oil spray is fab for keeping mosquitoes away when I'm out running, so I always keep a bottle of that in my sports bag!!0 -
I'm a rep so if theres anything you want to know feel free to ask away.
Theres a 90 day moneyback guarentee too so if you find that something doesnt suit after you've used it then you can return it for a full refund, your rep will then return it to avon & get her money back too. xxxx0 -

I agree with all of this!! I just can't get on with their make up try as I might. With the exception of the glimmer stick eyeliners. I find the colour representation in the brochures to be quite poor which has put me off, and my rep has never offered me samples of anything. He's an elderly gent who brings the brochures and does the deliveries, and any time I've sent anything back he has to check with his wife bless him! I do love the hand creams and a lot of the naturals range is good too, but the perfumes tend to fade quite quickly and I've never been anything other than disappointed with the bags and jewellery I'm afraid. I find the home stuff very overpriced so I've not tried any of it, same with the underwear/clothes.0
