a cheque from a stranger ?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes

My son recieved a cheque in the post today - it has his full name on it and is signed - though i cant make out the signature . we have no idea who its from , its a business cheque and the business name means nothing to us and searching online the website isn't working .

Is it safe for my son to bank this cheque ?

Can you tell us the business name? Someone here may know who they are.

So what is the business name that is on it. We will try and find out more information for you.

It could even be a scam, if they write in a couple of weeks after thinking he will have banked it, they may just write again and say we sent it in error, we would be quite happy to have half of it back, he say yippee, sends half the money back, then the cheque bounces, see where Im going.

Dont bank the cheque, if it isnt his and you dont recognise it as his, then at the moment it isnt his.

What was the post mark on the letter.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Hubby just called , MCM architecture LTD had a cheque book stolen several months ago ... that solves that mystery, now off to break the news to my son who was thinking it would pay for his driving lessons and first car .

Unfortunately he has already banked it but at least we know what it is where it is from, it will probably bounce or if it clears he knows not to spend any of it .

Banking it was NOT a good idea! He may now have to explain how he came to be in possession of a STOLEN cheque.

hopefully the fact that his father called the company and asked them about it and made them aware he may have already banked it will help avoid any unnecessary upset .

It can't be helped now so not worth getting uptight about without reason .

I wouldn't deposit a cheque that's not due to me.
What if the bank reports this to the police or S.O.C.A?

I think your son may know more about this than he is letting on.
Why would someone send, unsolicited, a stolen cheque to someone else they do not know from Adam? How did they know your son's name and address??
