Surely if you can't recognise one it doesn't matter?

Round here there's a real mix with people who have no spent a bean on them since they bought them and those who have done things to improve them.

Why would it matter to anyone but a snob?:)

Because it might affect re-sale value. The OP might not be a snob, but his potential purchasers might be.

I don't think that the first two look like ex council properties at all!

You probably don't live anywhere the outskirts of London? All of the properties are pretty typical of ex council in SE London/Kent borders
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I grew up and lived in SW London Surrey and they didn't look like the second one at all; it looks as if it's built too recently to be council housing. What you can see of the houses on either side of the first one actually do look a bit like that; I was thrown by the extension on the front.

This is what I tend to expect a council house to look like as it's 5 minutes' walk from where I grew up.

I would say nice surroundings - but still recognizable

Also, ex-council houses often have covenants requiring owners to fund repairs or alterations to council specifications, with no right of appeal. These demands can just appear out of the blue.

Lots of R reg fiestas with big exhausts, looking at the property if you see two people with big bottles of cheap nasty cider and arguing who is the father of this baby and why the benefits haven't been increased, you are then looking in the right place.

You have a very unflattering view of what owner occupiers do and look like.

I lived in a council house for 18 yrs, but I always say you only have to look at the way some people dress their windows, like dingy grey yucky net curtains, so council house style.................
