WARNING - Nigerian scammers
A very good friend has recently lost over £500 to a bunch of scammers on the Internet who are advertising iPhones and iPads amongst other similar makes.
The scam involves ads being posted for items and, if you contact the advertiser, you will receive a request for payment allegedly from PC World / Currys in Bristol. They also send a copy of a certificate which appears to be from Apple, authorising PC World as a retailer of Apple products. Also is a copy of what appears to be an ISO 9001 certificate. All this is obviously false and I have warned PC World that their name is being used in this way.
All the warning signs are there for you savvy MSEers. Bad grammar, spelling and punctuation on the website and the killer being a request for payment via Western Union. But in my friend's defence, he is Portuguese and, although he speaks good English, he does not appreciate the finer points of our language.
So please, please be careful out there and avoid like the plague any advert with the following contact details:
Tell: +447045702436
email :: a1mobile2011@gmail.com
email: a1mobile2011@live.com
email: a1m2011ltd@hotmail.com
SKYPE: a1altd20
Contact: Andrew Glenn
Try putting those contact details into Google and you will see what I mean.
Another name to watch out for is Andre Lewis who is the payee for the Western Union transfer and who cheekily gives the address of PC World in Bristol.
At the point when my friend was contacted by a Customs Officer at Lagos Airport demanding a further 500 euro to release the package, he realised that he had been scammed. Please don't let them get you the same way.

In their defence (though not much of one) not all heed the warnings. Also, not all use the internet regularly or have lessons on how to use it let alone are part of internet forums. My father is one of these and to make things worse, refuses to listen to the advice I try to offer as he is that type of a person. (Refuses to listen to advice, refuses to admit failure).
People will continue to fall for things like this and they will continue to grow, just like the spam-junk mail of yesterday that saw little old ladies empty out their bank accounts at the promise of a massive payment, they are aimed at a certain type of vugnrable person, very sad.0
