A wedding only HAS to cost £180, the intention to marry £40 is each and the ceremony, which is £100 in my district plus £3.50 for the cert. Everything else is optional.
I had a very minimal wedding and it was fantastic.
I had the marriage at the registry office. Hubby's suit from M and S, MIL made my dress
Dinner for us and 18 close family at a local lovely country gastro pub.
Night party for 100 with buffet and disco. Two bottles of cava on each table for the toast. (My family got the platters of sarnies from Sainsbury and the rest of the food was done themselves.
= £3k.
I went in my Mum and Dad's Nissan Xtrail with a cream ribbon. With digital camera's being so fabulous we didn't have a professional photographer. Got a mate to do it (not part of the main wedding party, otherwise that person wouldn't be in the photos). Printed all 300 pics at max speilman!I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -
Weddings don't have to be expensive.
Mine was just under £3,000.
Dress - £90 from monsoon wedding range (1/2 price in the wedding sale)
Wedding car - FREE (husbands uncle gift to us, lovely old cream car, was beautiful)
Photographer - £50 (lady gaining experience as only set up business for 6 mths & also went with a professional company who we had for 1.5hrs and they would use our photos to advertise their business)
Wedding cake - FREE (our gift from a friend who is fantastic at making cakes)
We got married in a village pub that has a room all set up for wedding ceremonies and then it was turned round for the meal whilst we had photos taken. We had a buffet and served our wedding cupcakes with little pots of ice cream.
We used our ipod for music.
Had the wedding we wanted, it was fab.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Mine wasn't a lot more than 3 grand either. Most of my spend went on champagne. If people have the grace to come to my wedding, the least I can do is give them something decent to drink.

One of the things Im glad I had done properly were the photos. We had an amazing photographer who was worth paying for, and the pictures last a lot longer than other things will from the day. I bought lots of decorative type stuff off ebay ( I had flower petals down the aisle which cost £8 as opposed to the couple of hundred the flower place wanted) and made my own invitations.
However if you know someone who is a photographer then of course if you like their style of shots, use them if you can!
Just make sure you select them carefully. One of my friends let her Aunt choose her photographer because she apparently said he was great and I dont think my friend even looked at his portfolio, but she was a bit disappointed at some of the photos, and he wasnt cheap.
However, as others have said, I wouldnt worry too much. Im pretty sure 99% of this will be taken out of your hands by your future wife
