Available at honestjohn.co.uk site.

As usual, French and Italian cars have highest MOT failure rate!
Japanese cars are again flying with great colors.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

You're not reading the same top 50 as honestjohn then, with the Renault Modus and Peugeot 206 in it, and the Mazda in the bottom 50. All old cars fail more than new cars from these figures. Doesn't seem any great trend anywhere else.

If you look at the when cars fail in their first MOT, the French cars fail most.

And the best pass rates for Fords were recorded around Dagenham - spares must be easy to come by?

25% failure rate for lighting and signalling? Can't people change light bulbs before MOT test? You're supposed to check these things regularly anyway.

You gotta laugh at the Mondeo, 55.3% pass rate for the MOT.

    Lighting
    Suspension
    Brakes

Too many people on here believe magazine hype about that car.

It's just an exmple of an older car. 2008 Mondeo is up at the top end, 76.9%, older ones are down to 44.5%. You could pick the Honda Prelude, 51.4%, ot the Toyota Carina 53%. It's a meaningless table.

    Well, most statistics are meaningless.

A statistician can have his head in an oven and his feet in ice, and he will say that on the average he feels fine.

Pity the tables don't show the mileage recorded (in bands). The information is surely available as it is recorded on MOT computerised certificates. Some 3 year old cars will have done less than 15,000 miles; others may have topped 100,000, leading to considerable variation in wear and tear. The high proportion of failures on 'lighting and signalling' perhaps tells us more about the owners than the quality of the manufacturer!
Possibly the variations in postcode areas reflect the numbers of fast-fit chain outfits in particular areas?
I don't think I would base a buying decision on this.

Classic example of flawed statistical analysis which is norm these days.
The only MOT statistics worth looking at would be where failure is due to a mechanical problem which the average more is not qualified to repair or diagnose.
Dodgy wipers, blown bulbs, worn tyres, chipped windscreen, missing/broken mirrors are all things the owner can easily resolve themself or at least be aware it needs sorted and to get it done before the MOT.
If would be interesting to see results if these were all excluded. Also need to know how many of each model are on road broken down by model and engine and variations in mechanics. Without this the data is meaningless.

I'm fairly attentive but I didn't know my indicator bulbs weren't orange enough for my MOT in December. :D
