Selling iPod Nano 1st Gens on eBay

Just thought I would share with you - I listed a broken iPod Nano on fleabay to see if there would be any interest, and I have been inundated with offers to end the auction, the highest being for thirty quid.

I was completely bemused by this...I have sold things for spares and repairs before but never for so much interest. Well another eBayer enlightened me - iPod Nanos bought between Sept 05 and Dec 06 are eligible for a free battery replacement due to a fault. Here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/

Refurbished ones are on sale for 129 quid...that's more than they were originally!! I thought something was odd about the situation. Thankfully someone kindly let me know but it just goes to show if you think there is unwarranted interest in an item you have listed, they probably know something you don't.....
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

LOL! You did well - I got £17 for my broken 4th gen.

That depends, though, on whether it is only the battery that needs replacing - not e.g. the software or another part. I hope you described the faults accurately. When my 4th gen broke down it was the software that got corrupted; I think it was my PC as it happened to two (!) subsequent 6th gen nanos I bought. PC World replaced them both - but my sister's 3rd gen was fine when I linked it to my PC.

So I'm not sure simply replacing the battery would have solved the problem.

The second post on that thread says you don't get a 6th gen, but a replacement first gen.

And the rest of the thread goes on to say that Apple stopped ending out refurbs within a week or two and everyone then received a shiny new 6th Gen (myself included!)

I am so grateful that someone else told me this, I would have been hopping mad otherwise! I don't need it anymore as I use my phone and I don't want to carry two devices around with me anyway, so I will get more money selling the new item. It does seem that you get a 6th gen now as a replacement.
