In terms of value for money, depreciation, running costs and reliability which of the following cars would you choose?
  • Honda Accord saloon Type S, 2.0
  • Mercedes C220 saloon

Not an easy choice. I enjoyed my Accord for over 8 years and never had a single problem but fuel and tax costs got the better of me :( Have you looked in Parkers?
  • Assuming current models but not new, i'd be going for the MB.

Purely because i have an old MB and the services of one of the oldest established MB specialists indies in the country keeps my fine old car running for supermini costs.

If i had to rely on main dealers for parts and service then probably Honda, but do investigate service and parts costs for all three.

The Merc, but only in automatic and Sport trim and it has to be the current model (March 2011 onwards). Easily identified by the LED running lights, fixed screen in the dashboard (not pop-up) and lower emissions.

After much comparison, I went for a 6 month old one earlier this year.

I'd have the BMW 520, if you spending this amount of money, I would be most concerned about how much I liked the car, to be in and to drive.

Given that you are talking recent big money cars why worry about residuals?

Buy a fiat if you are trully MSE, ;);)

I'd probably drive past all those dealerships, and head over to Jaguar's and take a peek at an XF.

None of those offer good value for money, depreciation, running costs.

I would choose the red one.

Mind you Merc is RWD and will have trouble in snow :)

Honda is definitely more reliable (although Honda Acord tourer did have some problem with electric tailgate).

If buying Merc, don't buy manual because manual Mercs are not sought after
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

No car on elastic bands is any use in the snow, in my old as the hills RWD i've driven past hundreds of stuck and floundering FWD cars spinning hopelessly.

Yes Honda are reliable, but some of the prices for genuine parts when required can be eye watering, worth checking out.

Agree about manual Mercs, MB put lovely silky smooth auto boxes in their RWD models, and apart from the 7G version are totally reliable boxes, why would anyone want a manual when such a lovely drive is possible.

Not many Audi fans here, or does the short warranty and lack of customer service despite astronomical costs from their main dealers deter ownership.

To be honest I would be going down the BMW 3 Series route.

I noticed you've picked the A5 and not the A4 which means you prefer the coupe? The 3 Series Coupe is far better than the A5.
