HE Gas fires advice please.

We have a Magiglo Imago fire which looks great but doesn't warm the room. We want to change it for a High Efficiency gas fire, and have a fireplace with a chimney to fit it in.
I am really confused by the figures, and hope someone can advise me. Is glass fronted the best for me or open radiant fire? I have considered the Legend fires and the Nuflame fires. Nuflame have BSI standards, but Legend havent.
Please can someone help?

Have you seen a fire you like? If so tell me and I will try and guide you.


There are glass fronted HE fires and ''So Called'' open fronted HE fires. Take no notice of open fronted HE fires, 90% of the time you cannot fit it with the restrictor plate, which makes it HE.Leaving it on, would most likely spill the poisonous fumes into your room. Taking that off, will make the efficiency around 50%, but the manufacturers won't tell you this, as the legislation for gas fires has been messed about with over past few years. Nu flame are the culprits and it spread to a few other makes too. The regs have changed to more rigid, but the changes are not retrospective, so the likes of Nu flame can still get away with the rather OTT efficiency. Only if they change the specs a little, they will then have to have it retested to the new regs


What have you got at the moment, what type of flue do you have and do you have CH in that room?
