giff gaff (Up a Creek Without a Paddle!)
AS a result of MSE forum I contacted Giff Gaff for a free Sim Card for my Samsung smart phone which arrived shortly. I then purchased a Pay as You Go voucher from Tesco for a £10 giff gaff so called, "Goodybag"!
For £10 a month get:
My credit on the Giff Gaff website page said 0!
I contacted Giff Gaff and several days later after two reminders I got a reply saying I had used up my credit and since I never ordered a £10 Goodybag there was no credit left so they could not offer a refund!
I have never used a service which charged £10 for two short mobile calls and ten minutes internet surfing which was supposed to be free, have you?
Update is, I have thrown away the Giff Gaff Sim and replaced it with a Lycamobile Sim and voucher, far cheaper and a polite service with actual human beings you can actually speak to to iron out any problemsTHAT is the point, rather than FACELESS Giff Gaff a service with no one to talk to so you are up a creek without a paddle!!
Buyer Beware of giff gaff Pay As You Go. I concede if you open up a regular paying account you might, just might do better but I have my doubts. I feel "ripped off" by Giff Gaff AND they just do not care since no doubt, plenty more giff gaffs in the sea!
For £10 a month get:
- 250 UK minutes
- Unlimited UK texts
- Unlimited Internet
- Free to giffgaff

Sounds like your assumption that a top-up = a goodybag was the problem. I agree that GG customer service is dire but when it works it's hard to beat.
Last month my kids sent 600 texts each, about 150 minutes of calls and 1.2 GB of data - which cost £10 each. Bargain.0 -
this is not a giffgaff goodybag ,it is a topup, you needed to convert this to a goodybag for the minute internet etc.I then purchased a Pay as You Go voucher from Tesco for a £10 giff gaff so called, "Goodybag"!
Smartphones can and do use data in the background unless you turn them off.
I've been with GG since Jan and have no complaints,i haven't needed to use support so cannot comment directly on this.0 -
Thats a shame you had that experience. I will remember not to buy a top-up that way.
Ive always done my top-up on line. I am really impressed by Giffgaff, I get fast unlimited data and unlimited texts, and enough calls for £10 with no commitment
I know its not technically allowed but I use my phone on wifi router to supply internet round the house, Im using in excess of 3GB a month and they have never stopped me.
I was on contracts before, but got fed up with being robbed one way or another, so Im a GiffGaff convert.
Do you get data included with that Lycamobile SIM? I will look into that0 -
With GG if you a voucher to top up this is then automatically used as credit. At that point you can turn some or all of that credit into a goody bag. If you top up on-line using a card you can choose a goody bag immediately.Thats a shame you had that experience. I will remember not to buy a top-up that way.
