Southern Water - getting ON to a Water meter

Myself and my fiance recently moved house - from a rented property with a water meter. We have moved to a house we own, and were told at the time of moving that we'd be going straight onto a meter as the new property already had one installed.

Lo and behold, I get a bill at the new address for the remainder due at the old one (fair enough) and sorted out online to pay the bill for the new property by direct debit.

I've now had a bill at my new address for our water, informing me that i'm on a non metered bill which will be DD'd at £45 per month for 9 (why 9?) months. I also have a card sat in the kitchen from Southern Water telling me they've now connected my meter and what it's initial reading is.

When we were on the meter at the old address, our bill was basically never more than £25 per month... We cannot afford to have a 45% hike in our water bill for usage that will remain identical or drop (still two of us, same number of bedrooms. More efficient heating and insulation and one less toilet???) and I don't understand how they can do this...

The billing department presumably haven't actioned the change to metered billing

Just ring/email them and explain the situation.

Who told you the new property was metered ?

It could well be that they meter on change of occupier and it didnt have a meter, if so you will pay pro-rata RV charges up until the day it was fitted

Welcome to the Forum Joel, but if you want to post on here as a Company Rep then you need to be registered by MSE as such, as otherwise you are in breach of the rules.
