This is difficult. I do think sometimes though you just have to go with it - families have enough difficulities as it is, and I would worry that by not inviting them you will cause more of a rift for the future.

I'm not inviting any aqaintences or work people i don't get on with, but I feel family I need to invite to keep the peace.

Just my opinion though, I can understand why others have said the opposite.

We had a similar situation I have a very small family and over the years had lost touch with all but 1 set of aunt/uncle/cousins but they have they wound my dad up so much over the years. I felt I had to invite them as its the done thing even though I wasn't particulaly fussed if they came as I haven't spoken to them in a couple of years, after speaking to my dad it turned he really didnt want them there as he would felt on edge and not enjoyed the day (which as he has ended up paying for most of it didn't seem fair!) but didn't want to say so as he felt it was up to me, so we have made the decision to not invite them at all. None of us are contact with them any more and none us are bothered so its fine. But I am pleased I checked with my dad otherwise I would of ended up inviting them for the evening which he would of made he feel uncomfortable.

Basically I think you should do what feels right for you and if you are not sure check with your parents to see how they would feel??
