Rossendales - Not accepting payment

Options
Good morning all,

Just wanting to check I am doing the right thing here.

I am in the process of setting up a self managed DMP - I have paid 6 or 7 creditors their first payment and got standing orders set up for them all. Just waiting responses from other creditors.

However, Rossendales are being a complete nightmare. I have offered them £10pm which is all I can afford to them and they are refusing to accept this - saying they want £80pm!

I am going to send them another letter with a copy of my wage slip, as they have requested this, plus a list of outgoings. Is this the right thing to do?

Thanks again.
Start (27 March 2012): £25,683.20
Current (17 July 2012): £21,145.17
Paid off: £4538.03 (17.7%)

Debts cleared: 4 ... To go: 30
Aim No 1: Get debt under £20k before October 12!

It is a council tax debt.

Ignore it then...it's just a bailiff...eventually the debt will return to the council as uncollectable and you can have a meaningful discussion with the council regarding payment. However, you will have to pay a percentage of your income according to a scale and not the £10 a month you are proposing. If your only income is benefits then the minimum to repay is very low at about £3.55 a week for a single claimant.

If you work then what is your take home pay?

You cannot put Council Tax debt into a DMP. It is a priority debt.

You have to pay that off before you pay other creditors.

Pay the other creditors £1 whilst you pay off Rossendales. Make sure the other creditors know that once the CT is paid you will review the payments.

Has Rossendales ever been in your house or levied on a car?

How much have they charged in fees on top of the liabilty order?

Am I best to leave it until it goes back to the council?

I have already set up payments with the other creditors?

I don't own the house (still live with parents) but yes they have been in. They took information for my car, which I have now sold to pay off some court fines I had. The debt is for £274.78.

Personally I would let it go back to the council. You may have to renegotiate the repayments to your creditors as you must pay council tax arrears according to a scale which could be 17% of your take home pay.

£1002.52 per month. I work that out to be £170 per month?

Should I write to Rossendales again, or just leave it?

On that level of income it is 12%. So £120 per month in payments taken from your wages. You could accept the Rossendales offer of £80 a month or refuse it and let the debt return to council.

On your SOA to your creditors you should put a line in it "Council Tax Arrears" - £120

Then with whatever is leftover you then divide it amongst them. If it means £1 a month then that's what it has to be.

I think you need to join a debt charity and get proper help urgently.

No - given the info below, you need to stop paying other creditors and clear this debt.

You need to re-negoitiate these agreements then.

In which case they have a levy and can charge much higher fees.

Once the levy was done on the car, it belongs to the bailiffs not to you. If they find out that you have sold it, you are in trouble.

You must clear this debt before they find out.

On the piece of paper the bailiffs left, it will list the fees charged.

Type out that section of the levy on here.
