Spam or genuine ipad2 winning notification

Any one received an email from promopart@pixmania.org stating they have won an ipad

Have to enter your postcode to check and my postcode + name appear as winning an ipad2

Website then requires me to complete my details name address DOB etc and small print states have to agree to receive marketing information otherwise entry is void

Having looked at the T&C promotion is being run by company called Planet 49 based in Germany

I have purchased items from Pixmania before but dont ever recall entering any prize draw

Any ideas if this is genuine or spam? Would love to pick up a free ipad but wary of such emails asking for name address etc

That should be pixmania.com. In any case the from: field can be spoofed so that's not a reliable indicator.

    Ignore it.

Well done you for being wary!

Unless pixmania are advertising the competition for you to have entered, it sounds very scammy/phishingy. And even if you had won, why TF would they need so many personal details?

Why not fw the email to pixmania.com asking if it is real? It would alert them to chase down the scammer if the .org address was registered in order to deceive.

It's one of their domains - I checked. Doesn't mean that's where the email came from though.

The usual rule of thumb on knowing if you have won an ipad2. A parcel gets delivered to your door, you open it to find a brand new ipad2 and a congratulatory win slip. Any messages claiming you need to give them further details before receiving your already won prize, is spam.

Why would anyone open an unsolicited package in this day and age?

  • Bah iPad indeed. That's nothing, Prince Abubu of Nigeristan has emailed me telling me I'm going to inherit a million US dollars. I just need to contact him and pay a small upfront fee for customs etc. - sounds legit.........

Sorry to !!!!!! on your fireworks but he emailed me too and I've just sent him my name, address, D-O-B plus passport and driving licence numbers as proof of ID, my bank details (so he can pay the money in, obviously) and a payment to cover incidental expenses. The millions will be paid into my account by the middle of next week.
