Data only sim

Hello,

I've been lucky enough to win a Galaxy tablet (no I don't want to sell it, I will actually use it - best prize ever). How do data only sims work, it looks like PAYG expires each month?

Giffgaff do data bags starting at a fiver a month for 500MB. However, their £10 a month goody bag includes unlimited internet and texts plus 250 minutes of calls which is a brilliant deal if not too dear for you.

Thanks - do you know if you can text from a tablet?
  • the only exception I know of that you can currently buy is the "3" 3GB sims that you can buy for about £10 from Amazon.

These last 3 months from activation.

Alternatively the 6 month data deal from T-Mobile on PAYG for 500MB a month for 6 months for £20 is worth a look. T-Mobile haven't done anything bad when I've exceeded this a bit (no out of bundle charges) but I don't promise this will continue.

Ah sorry, just realised it's a Galaxy tab, not a phone. You won't be able to use a giffgaff goodybag as it's a tablet, not a phone. I don't think the Tab has a mobile capability, so you'll need to use wifi or tether to a mobile phone or dongle.

Thanks all, got a deal from my current provider - it's coming up to contract renewal time, so I guess they're happy to try and keep me!

I've a similar problem as SJ Jones.. the original poster.

I'm about to get a Motorola XOOM Tablet to use for work.. I'm a taxi driver and data 'on the go' is important to me.

Obviously the Tablet isn't going to be used for calls.. purely data, so who provides the best deal for SIM only, no calls, unlimited text and unlimited data ? Contract, PAYG or whatever isn't an issue... just the deal :)

I've googled and searched and most of the offers include voice minutes which I don't need, or have a data cap.

I was considering the GiffGaff deal, but a previous post mentioned that this SIM won't work in a Tablet.

    Ideas appreciated !!

T-mobile offer iPhone PAYG micro SIM with 12 months of free internet for one-off £10. In the past it used to work with any devices (with an adaptor). Don't know if it's still the case.
