How long to accrue holidays?

Any job I had previously holiday pay for the entire year was made in the first 6 months, Meaning if you started a job in January you would be entitled to paid holidays in July. This new job I started says in the contract not 6 months but 12 months service before full holiday entitlement, I am wondering if this is normal because as I say I've never experienced it before.

Unless I misunderstand you, the a/l is in arrears and your full entitlement is reached after 12 months service. This should not be a barrier to pro-rated entitlement though.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

You should be able to take a/l now - and if you exit employment before you've accrued enough service to cover the taken a/l then it can be recovered from you final salary, (you're unlikely to be permitted to take a full years a/l and then simply resign and walk away over the coming months).Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Not so sure about that, In my last job I started end of May, set holidays were in July for 2 weeks, I didn't get any holiday pay.0 -

So
what date did you start?
what date did you leave?
when did the leave year start - 1 January, 1 April, or some other date?
what would be the holiday entitlement for someone in their first year of employment with the company?
did you work 5 or more days a week?
if not, how many days did you work and were they of equal length?0 -
You start accruing holiday from the day you start but a company can say that no holiday can be taken say in the first 12 weeks of employment but they have to allow you to take the full entitlement you are allowed.
Are you saying your contact says you are not allowed to take holiday till you have been there 12 months?
That then means you have NO holiday for the holiday year we are in and corect me if I am wrong, is illegal.0 -
No, our holidays are set, we can't pick our own, so in the summer we close for 2 weeks, I won't get any holiday pay, you only get full holiday pay after 1 year of service.0

All the places I've worked you start accruing holiday from the day you start, and you can take it any time but if you take more holiday than you have accrued when you leave, you have to pay back what you owe. Never heard of your companies policies.Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16
Became homeowners 26.02.16
Baby girl arrived 27.10.16
Baby boy arrived 16.09.2018

What? No, you are entitled to 28 days each year so what you are saying surely is not right?
They can not give you ZERO holidays for a years work!0 -

I think set holidays are confusing people, what I mean is, in any other job once I had worked for them 6 months I got holiday pay, doesn't matter when the holiday year starts, as i said if i started in January i would be entitled to holiday pay at the set holidays in July. If I started in July although i would be of for Christmas as the place is closed i wouldn't get holiday pay as I've not been with the firm 6 months, now this new firm takes that one step further and doubles it from 6 months to 12.0
