rights to exchange at orange shop
my friend changed her contract to get a replacement phone at an orange shop yesterday , specifically to get a phone with easy texting as she has difficulties with her fingers - she has found the phone she got (a san francisco 11) is really difficult to use and we phoned the shop asking them to allow an exchange - they are saying no. Does she have any rights to cancel or exchange for another phone ? We were relying on their advice as they had no working models in the shop.

There is no specific right to an exchange or a refund if a product is purchased in a retail store, as the customer has the chance to say "I'd like a look at that", before they hand over their hard earned. If your friend didn't do this, then she's accepted the product as is. The only recourse is if the product is faulty.0

I'm not so sure. If easy use when texting for someone with finger issues was stated as a specific requirement, then it could be a condition of sale (although it would be very difficult to define what was actually meant). Can't do any harm to check with CAB. Was there a witness to the discussion? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

No right to exchange or return.
And I don't think that it is really "difficult to use" - the same as with many other phones with capacitive screens that you could have tried (Samsungs, HTCs etc).
Just use it in a landscape position to make QWERTY bigger. Or switch to a classic / compact keyboard.
Or install Swype keyboard or similar:

That's the point though, you don't specify condition and then not ask to confirm that the product recommended meets that condition. By all means put that to the store manager, but they hear buyers remorse dressed up as a lot of things.0
