I've found that it is getting very poor for local auctions just selling bits and bobs, the best thing is to keep a look out in your local paper. Most of them don't seem to be run out of auction houses now. Our only local one is run through the quantity surveyors office and they only deal with antiquesOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hi
Thought people in Ireland north & south, and people in Scotland might be interested to know of https://www.wilsonsauctions.com. I haven't actually used them but their website seems to indicate that they have a good turnover of varied stock.0 -
A few months ago I was really considering getting a new dining table for my small flat, as the previous one was an old cheapo and on its last legs - literally. One leg kept falling off and I had to keep propping it up!
People around here always get rid of stuff and there's a second hand furniture shop down the road with very good stuff at reasonable prices. Anyway I made sure to say to all those I chatted with in my neighbourhood that I was looking for a new table, and eventually this did pay off: My very next door neighbour was redecorating and she had just bought a trendy new table. Her old table and four chairs, still in perfect condition, were now redundant and she said I could just have them. Her husband even helped me move them into my flat and dump the old, chipped and broken one into the skip! My old chairs, still good, went to the charity shop.
Cost: £0.00. Moral of the story: talk to people about the things you need or want. You never know, and you might help recycle what is still usable.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

My eldest son brought me a wooden cabinet (that someone was getting rid o
f), anyway I was wondering what to do with it, you know throw it or keep it.
I was looking through a house mag and saw one the exact shape and everything but painted in a nice antique cream....£700 well before you could say keep it! I was at the paint shop and now everyone admires it.
I kept the picture out of the mag. so that I can show off with my bargain.0 -

We are avid freecyclers https://www.freecycle.org.
I have had TV cabinet, hoover, loft bed, coffee table, capucinno maker, curtains, fold-up bed - could have had sofas and wardrobes if could have got them in the car! All for nowt!!
What comes up for grabs on freecycle never ceases to amaze me - in fact me and DD1 are doing a virtual f'urnish your house freecycle style' - we have made a list of things that we want for our virtual house, and are crossing them off when those items come up on freecycle - to see if it a) possible to fully furnish a house from freecycle and b) how long this would take.0 -
