Hello everyone, I have just phoned Dell to ask them if they had a rough idea what time they would be delivering my computer today. I was informed that my order had been cancelled  and to ask my bank why the payment was refused My bank informed me that Dell have not even tried for any payment
To say I am Pi***ed would be an understatement, I am getting no joy from Dell, not even sending me an email to explain why they have taken this course of action..Grrr. Needless to say I shall not be dealing with Dell again anytime soon :T Rant over!
So, I'm back at the dawing board and have decided to try some of the computer shops in my area, where I can at least put my arguement across personally
if the need arises.
I hope you do not mind me running some specs past you (again!) Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're buying an x86 laptop, try and go for an Intel Core or Dual Core processor, and also more RAM. Having said that, £299 is pretty cheap and if you're not doing anything heavy duty with your machine, those specs are probably fine, except the RAM which you can easily upgrade yourself.0

Hi Sea, is this a laptop
I am really looking for a deasktop and it shows as a desktop online. With a monitor it will take the price to just over £400 which is roughly my budget.

Sorry Carmen, thought you were buying a laptop for some reason. Same advice applies though, or the AMDs are good processors too.0

I agree with seaweasel, you really need 500 MB RAM as a minimum. XP will run much better with more memory.0

If you're budget is £400 then for that money the spec you have posted is poor value. The problems i see are:
256 DDR Ram, very poor, you want at least 512, even better is 1gb or more.
80gb harddrive, again for the money you are spending i would expect a bigger hard drive, maybe 120gb
You don't say what size monitor or whether flat screen etc....
Nice one here for £590 delivered:

or this one (which you can upgrade):

Just some ideas and don't forget Quidco!0 -
Mistakes happen in all organisations.
Put your foot down with Dell, you've taken a day off work for delivery haven't you, and that deserves some compensation, a cheaper PC..
This assumes that you did have the money in the bank, and that the bank didn't make the mistake.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thank you for all your advice, I will have a good look at 2 of those sites Ivry.
Albertross, I realise mistakes can happen but and I spent weeks looking and deciding what computer to buy so, then I spent 45 mins on the phone trying to get some explaination for the c**k up and still getting no where, I realised I am the only one getting very, very stressed and then to think about starting over with Dell again  my life is far too short for all this stress :rotfl:
P.S. Sufficient funds were in the bank, and they confirmed that there was no reason to refuse payment!

So why couldn't they just reinstate your order? With a nice discount for your inconvenience.
PS Not sure if you have a credit card or not, but better to buy stuff remotely with one, to give you protection with firms going bust etc..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Evry, unfortunately the one from Play.com has sold out...what do you think of this one? It seems to tick all the boxes from the comments above
And it has 3 yrs warranty :T
