HTC One X problem - stopped recognising SIM card

Hi,

I recently bought a new HTC One X, however now, about 3 weeks later, it has suddenly stopped recognising the SIM. I can't get any signal when I could before, so started exploring. If I attempt to go into the APN menu within Settings, it says 'no SIM card found'. So it obviously can't read the SIM.

Yet I have then put the SIM back into my old handset, and it works fine so it is definitely not the case that the SIM is the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? From when the SIM was initiall put into the handset and started working, to when it stopped working, at no time have I removed the SIM again so it seems really odd.

Many thanks.

Might be handy to get a free payg sim on another network and try that and see if the phone will read any sim.
If it won't, it could be a faulty phone.

As soon as I found the problem I ordered 2 different free PAYG micro SIMs to try in the handset. I really hope they both work, as the handset was bought from eBay so I have little comeback :-(

! If its been bought on Ebay it might be an idea to call Orange and make sure it's not been blacklisted.

Indeed. Is it giving a sim error or is it saying there is no sim?

Goodness I hadn't even thought of that :o Given that the handset was working just fine for the first couple of weeks I thought all was ok.

I'm super cautious when buying anything high value like that on eBay, the guy I bought from had 100% postive feedback, and thosands of them.

But now I am wondering, I've had a situation before where someone with tens of thousands of positive feedback had their account hacked, and I was sold non-existent tickets (got money back thankfully). So that may be the case here - perhaps I had best open an eBay case asap just in case, as I guess I can always close it again.

When you start the phone up, there is no error, but it says 'No service' where it should show the network name.

However if I go into Settings -> Mobile network -> Access Point Names, it says :

No SIM card found. Please insert a SIM card into the phone.

Well I've tried someone else's SIM in the phone today at work. At it still didn't recognise it, so it must be the phone :-(

So odd as it was working perfectly fine for the first couple of weeks.

Can it be that it was not unlocked correctly and works with Orange sim only?

    Hi grumbler,

I wondered that myself but the Orange SIMs I have tried do not work.

I've contacted the seller to arrange for a return and refund hopefully. The seller said it was an unwanted upgrade, so if this is true they shouldn't be out of pocket, and should be able to just return it back for an exchange with their network.

Actually it's not odd at all, they can't report it lost/stolen straight away or it's too suspicious. It's more common for it to work for a good couple of months, as that's when the PayPal protection window shuts.
