Replaced carpet , landlord wants it back

Did you replace the carpet with something other than carpet, e.g laminate??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
-
No, it's carpet, just a different one to before. I.e. it's not 5mm thin cheapo one. And it has underlay (shock horror)"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0

Predictably I guess, now that I've moved out, LL is denying we ever had this conversation and wants it returned back to carpet and wants to deduct it from the deposit - a brand new carpet for free. Do I have any rights for disputing this? I feel like I improved the place out of my own pocket, the carpet previously was awful.
Sorry, read this too quickly.
So you didn't replace his carpet with a new one? What did you replace it with?0 -
I have replaced it with carpet, just a different one. Sorry it wasn't clear I meant returned back to original carpet"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0

Then as far as I can see, the inventory states 'carpet' and you've left the place with 'carpet' so he has nothing to claim for.0

The LL doesn't have a leg to stand on - he get's the property back with NEW carpet, at no cost to himself, so what is the basis for his complaint?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
-
Although he may be able to tell its a different carpet, it doesn't look like the inventory has enough info (even photos would likely not show true colour) therefore just deny changing the carpet...?0

The carpet upstairs is the exact same one as the one that used to be in the living room that I replaced. There are no other carpets downstairs. But they are a different colour so it's noticeable if you know how it looked before etc.
My deposit is protected by the DPS, would I liaise with them about this issue as the LL is unwilling?"The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0 -

Yes, you can go online and ask them for the return of your deposit.
Or you can telephone them for further information - I found them very helpful.
Before you do this is there anyway that you and the LL can come to an agreement?
Has he actually seen the carpet or is all this being done through an agent?
I am a loss as to why he won't accept your new carpet. Given the betterment rules how much is he wanting for you to 'put it back?' Is he going to give you your carpet back?
I am sure he doesn't have a leg to stand on!
Have you got a receipt for your carpet?0 -
I agree. Don't forget the underlay.JonnyBravo wrote: »If he does end up getting cash off you make sure you get "your" carpet back. Goes around, comes around.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
