If only Apple would make their OSes more "open"-esque when it comes to say transferring files via bluetooth or compatibility with 3rd-party accesories.

You have to buy into the apple experience basically with any apple product, whilst other manufacturers are working on the compatibility over current tablets, and beyond, apple are still locked into their own products. And I just could never see the point of having an Iphone, then basically a bigger Iphone, but with no call facility when you get an ipad. (which is where their "compatibility" comes into play) <insert rant> I just find it such an issue that they don't sell parts of their items, it's gotta be 3rd party things, like European travel adaptor. They can't just sell individual plugs, You Have to buy a pack of the adaptor you already own, and random other plugs you might not use. Or the camera kit... Not every usb lead/camera connection will work with one of the parts, the second being a card reader. You have to buy both parts and hope.

Technology is slow to catch up to market demand, but it is fair to say that we really are going down the route of tablets now. It's what kids want, adults want, and admittedly it does seem to be "Dad, can I have an ipad for xmas" or even down to itouch for the younger ones. Or as Adults an Ipad seems really quite neat to own. BUT you need to be able to have a use for it. I was talking with a friend yesterday about that. I figured it was a novelty buy, but actually my needs to use it has increased more as I've had it, and I find it invaluable now to me. But only because I don't do mass gaming, use it to read on, write on, email, surf, browse, skype, contact base, site stuff etc. Without that, it would be kind of a neat, but expensive, waste of space.

All I can say is, yes my iPad 2 is limited, but I've found ways beyond that. Using 3rd party apps to improve my experience. As for things like a camera, well I never bought it for that, so i never expected greatness. I have a good compact that I prefer, but with buying the Camera connection kit (£25 >.<) on top, it now gives me an easy way to just pull off an image and email instantly (for example)

ICS is still pretty new, and most of the market tablets are not running it yet. I'm running it on my Xoom wifi, but only because I made it "American" and took their over air updates. And it works great! But still waiting for a uk release (I believe, gave up checking after a while).
ICS is the standard tablet OS currently, but we're not in the flooded with tablet market yet, (ignoring all the really cheap, really poor quality chinese wannabe's)
I'm still confident it will happen over the next two years however. But till then pretty much the best is still the ipad even with it's limitations. Thus said I would not go for the ipad 3 over a 2, not enough improvement, and a few down sides on top.

I do still love my ipad though, but could easily use my Xoom. Using both, ipad is still nicer to use.
