Lol yes maybe she is :p I think she meant I'm only getting married once so make sure it's perfect. (I hope lol):p

I just want to say that I know certain people in my family will look down on a village hall wedding, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it in the slightest!!!:)

Thanks for the link MandM90 I can't get on it at work but will look later! Thank you!:D

    xxxx

    !!!!!! what they think!
It's your wedding (and of course your husband-to-be's) so do what suits you both, not family members who may have high-falutin' opinions about what weddings should be like.

And if they don't like the wedding you want to have, rescind their invitations. ;)

I think the idea of a village hall wedding is lovely. It will be unique. You can make it just how you'd like. I love the more personal touch anyway.

I agree with most people that it's the atmosphere that counts.

But I would also point out that as a guest, I'd feel there was little point in dressing up to the nines for an event in a village hall. There may be the perception that you're doing things on the cheap, and that may be reflected in the gifts you receive (if you are accepting them).

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Are you talking about guests just invited to the reception rather than to the church ceremony as well?

Personally, if I were going to a church wedding then on to a reception at a village hall or to a wedding in a hotel or some other civil place, I'd wear exactly the same thing.

And if I were invited to a reception at a village hall or a reception at a hotel, I'd wear the same thing - but not so dressy as if I were at the 'full' wedding, IYSWIM.

I'd also buy a gift that represented the relationship I had with the bride and groom, not the 'grandeur' (or not) of the venue.

I wouldn't automatically rule out a pub as middle ground between the two either. We had our wedding reception here:

I know the likelihood of you being from the same area is slim ;) but you may have something similar nearby. We got married on a Thursday so didn't have to pay room hire as they were glad of the business mid week but even on a Saturday I think the room hire was only about £150. We opted for a buffet menu which was about £8 per head and then ordered a few vegetarian meals from the menu for the veggies. We took our own bubbly and paid corkage which still worked out cheaper than buying theirs.

Thanks for the link FatVonD, a pub could be a good middle ground I haven't thought of this. Have to have a look around and test some pubs out I think!:p

I wore what I would usual wear to a wedding at my Aunties village hall reception, people were a bit more casual maybe but everyone still looked lovely! No one was in t-shirts lol.
Like you said Polly I would buy the same gift regardless of where the wedding was.:) Also I should resend their invites! :D
